2008
I will not speak either of architecture or landscape, because I think is more usefull yo clarify what are the conditions of a real disciplinary advance. The Mediterranean has been and is the “physical nexus” of the coastal settlements. But, even in the past, the Mare Nostrum should not have been so unified as history, sometimes, and the myth, especially, have been handed down. So we should focus on somethimg that will provide reasons and opportunities to mitigate difference and under take a process aimed at a shared interest. For this reason, I refer to the European program of Hidhways of the Sea (2004(, because I think that, starting only from the sea and from its ability to give a meaning…
Progettare la città liquida. Il nuovo Piano Regolatore Portuale di Palermo
2018
The approval in 2018 of the new Masterplan for the Port of Palermo, elaborated in 2008 and result of a long process of planning, negotiation, verifications and approvals, is an important starting point to complete the project of optimization of port functions and overall redesign of the urban waterfront improving new relationship between city and water, already started through some technical and functional interventions of the Port Authority and the recent conclusion of the international competition of ideas for the new cruise and passenger terminals and the related areas of city-port interface. The Masterplan for the Port of Palermo acts simultaneously on three levels: it redefines and dec…
Intorno a Cees Nooteboom e José Saramago.

Gerunds become prepositional infinitives in Romance Small Clauses: the effects of later Merge to the syntactic spine
2019
This article offers a comparative analysis of ‘predicative’ gerunds (‘PGs’) and prepositional infinitives (‘PIs’), focussing on perception constructions in Spanish (PGs) and European Portuguese (PIs). I demonstrate that these two constructions are diachronically related and that they still have a similar syntax. The evidence discussed suggests that both constructions are Small Clauses headed by a preposition of central coincidence. In PGs, this preposition is merged in a low aspectual projection and incorporates into the verb. In PIs, an evolution of PGs, it is merged later in the structure. This leads to a layering process, i.e. the splitting of a single head into a series of heads and tra…
Economics Terms from Scotland to Italy: the First Italian Translations of Smith’s Wealth of Nations (1790/91-1851), in F. Forman (ed.), The Adam Smit…
2023
Adam Smith’s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations has always been recognized as the first economic treatise that systematized political economy comprehensively by replacing mercantilist and physiocratic theories at the dawning of the Industrial Revolution. The most recent studies on Smith’s translations have been carried out so far by economic historians, whose research on this field has worthily traced the influence of Smith’s thought across time, countries and continents. The spread of Smith’s original works and translations in France also reflected the cultural activity of the country and its participation in the Enlightenment debates. Presumably, the Neapolitan…
Palermo Symposium: Cross-disciplinary studies on Adam Smith’s Language and Translated Works in F. Forman (ed.), The Adam Smith Review, vol. 13 (1st e…
2023
This chapter lists five works by scholars belonging to different fields history, economics, language and translation studies. About fifty scholars from all over the world, interested in studying the international reception of Smithian thought, took part in the meeting at Palermo to share their ideas, methods, sources and knowledge. In “Economy” and “Political Economy” in the Theory of moral sentiments and the wealth of nations, Luigi Alonzi analyses the semantic evolution of the word ‘oeconomy’ and the term ‘political oeconomy’ in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by investigating their use in Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments and Wealth of Nations.
