A preliminary assessment of a detailed two stream short-wave narrow-band model using spectral radiation measurements
1997
Abstract A data bank of measurements of global, direct and diffuse solar spectral irradiances at ground level for clear skies has been compiled for Valencia (Spain) dating back to December 1992. The measurements were made with a commercial Li-cor 1800 spectroradiometer with a range of 300–1100 nm and a spectral resolution of 6 nm. A preliminary comparative assessment has been carried out between the experimental data and model data. The chosen model was a detailed narrow-band model (208 spectral intervals from 0.2 to 4 μm) developed at the “Laboratoire d'Optique Atmospherique (LOA)” of the University of Lille (France). This plane-parallel multilayer model uses a two-flux method to solve the…
A Software Tool for the Exponential Power Distribution: The normalp Package
2005
In this paper we present the normalp package, a package for the statistical environment R that has a set of tools for dealing with the exponential power distribution. In this package there are functions to compute the density function, the distribution function and the quantiles from an exponential power distribution and to generate pseudo-random numbers from the same distribution. Moreover, methods concerning the estimation of the distribution parameters are described and implemented. It is also possible to estimate linear regression models when we assume the random errors distributed according to an exponential power distribution. A set of functions is designed to perform simulation studi…
On the empirical spectral distribution for certain models related to sample covariance matrices with different correlations
2021
Given [Formula: see text], we study two classes of large random matrices of the form [Formula: see text] where for every [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] are iid copies of a random variable [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] are two (not necessarily independent) sets of independent random vectors having different covariance matrices and generating well concentrated bilinear forms. We consider two main asymptotic regimes as [Formula: see text]: a standard one, where [Formula: see text], and a slightly modified one, where [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] while [Formula: see text] for some [Formula: see text]. Assuming that vectors [Formula: see t…
Maturation of critical technologies for the DEMO balance of plant systems
2022
The Pre-Concept Design (PCD) of the Balance of Plant (BoP) systems of the EU-DEMO power plant is described in this paper for both breeding blanket (BB) concepts under assessment, namely the Water Cooled Lithium Lead (WCLL) BB and the Helium Cooled Pebble Bed (HCPB) BB. Moreover, the results of a preliminary evaluation of a number of BoP variants are discussed. This paper outlines the steps of the BoP design development, highlighting the project objectives and the strategy for their achievement under the very challenging requirements which include, among others, the intermittent nature of the DEMO plasma heat source. The main achievements during the PCD Phase will be reported together with t…
A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Growth and Profit Rate Distribution: The Spanish Case
2022
We analyse the time evolution of the empirical cross-sectional distribution of firms’ profit and growth rates. In particular, we analyse the conditional properties of the empirical distributions depending on the size of the firms and the business cycle phase. In order to do so, we employ the Laplace distribution as a benchmark, further considering the Subbotin and Asymmetric Exponential Power (AEP hereafter) distributions, to capture the potential asymmetry and leptokurtosis of the empirical distribution. Our results show that the profit rates of large firms are characterised by an asymmetric Laplace distribution with parameters largely independent of the business cycle phase. Small firms, …
Effect of voltage deviations on power distribution losses in presence of DG technology
2015
Integration of distributed generation (DG) units in power distribution network has become increasingly attractive multi-faceted paradigm as economic and environmental factors drive new technologies to be more efficient and less polluting than their earlier counterparts. The installation of DGs impacts critically on the planning and operating characteristics of the distribution network. Type, location, number and capacity of DG are essential factors for studying the effect of DGs on the system behavior. In this paper the effect of DG on the power losses of a distribution network is investigated for different types of DG units. Also, the impact of DG on the voltage profile is demonstrated bef…
Current transformers effects on the measurement of harmonic active power in LV and MV networks
2011
The harmonic active power is used to determine the location of polluting loads, the direction of harmonic power flow and to estimate how consequential a certain current harmonic source is. The highest uncertainties, when measuring harmonic active power, are introduced by the current and voltage transducers. This paper presents experimental results which show the impact of current transformers (CTs) on the accuracy of the harmonic power measurements. An expression for the evaluation of the power error in distorted conditions was developed which can be easily utilized in the case of linear current transducers. It is shown how CTs cannot be considered linear transducers and how the higher the …
