HLA-Cw4 Association with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in Sicilian Patients

The HLA frequencies of 50 Sicilian patients affected with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) were examined. The frequency of Cw4 antigen was significantly increased in patients. Thus results obtained in our homogeneous population confirm in part previous reports suggesting that Cw4-related genetic factors might be involved in the susceptibility to aetiological or pathogenetic mechanisms which play a role in some haematological malignancies.

Hydroxylation of collagen type I: evidence that both lysyl and prolyl residues are overhydroxylated in osteogenesis imperfecta

The composition of the collagens secreted into the media of fibroblast cultures of 39 patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) was the same in controls and OI cultures. An abnormal migration pattern of collagens upon SDS-PAGE was evident in one third of the cultures investigated. Lysyl and prolyl hydroxylation of HPLC-purified alpha 1(I) chains was elevated in about 60% of cultures. The degree of hydroxylation was highest in the lethal forms. The extent of lysyl and prolyl hydroxylation showed a strong correlation (r = 0.74, P < 0.001). Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Array-Based Characterization of Ring Chromosome 18

Objective To study genotype–phenotype correlation of ring chromosome 18 [r(18)] in 9 patients with 46,XN karyotype. Study design In 9 patients with a de novo 46,XN,r(18) karyotype (7 females, 2 males), we performed high-resolution single-nucleotide polymorphism array analysis (Illumina Human Omni1-QuadV1 array in 6 patients, Affymetrix 6.0 array in 3 patients), investigation of parental origin, and genotype–phenotype correlation. Clinical evaluation of antiseptic mouth rinses to reduce salivary load of SARS-CoV-2

AbstractMost public health measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic are based on preventing the pathogen spread, and the use of oral antiseptics has been proposed as a strategy to reduce transmission risk. The aim of this manuscript is to test the efficacy of mouthwashes to reduce salivary viral load in vivo. This is a multi-centre, blinded, parallel-group, placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial that tests the effect of four mouthwashes (cetylpyridinium chloride, chlorhexidine, povidone-iodine and hydrogen peroxide) in SARS-CoV-2 salivary load measured by qPCR at baseline and 30, 60 and 120 min after the mouthrinse. Incomplete penetrance and phenotypic variability of 6q16 deletions including SIM1.

International audience; 6q16 deletions have been described in patients with a Prader-Willi-like (PWS-like) phenotype. Recent studies have shown that certain rare single-minded 1 (SIM1) loss-of-function variants were associated with a high intra-familial risk for obesity with or without features of PWS-like syndrome. Babies of the War: Effect of War Exposure Early in Life on Mortality Throughout Life

There is increasing evidence that circumstances very early in our lives, and particularly during pregnancy, can affect our health for the remainder of life. Studies that have looked at this relationship have often used extreme situations, such as famines that occurred during wartime. Here we investigate whether less extreme situations during World War II also affected later-life mortality for cohorts born in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, and Norway. Changing pattern and etiology of maxillofacial fractures during the civil uprising in Western Libya

Background The purpose of the present study was to evaluate changing pattern in characteristics of maxillofacial fractures and concomitant injuries in Western Libya During revolution and to assess the association between mechanism of injury and fracture patterns. Material and Methods A retrospective review of medical records and radiographs of 187 patients treated for maxillofacial fractures from January 2010 to December 2012 was performed, there were 326 fractures in 187 patients.
