The effect of culture on requirements: a value-based view of prioritization
2015
This paper examines how culture affects requirements and their prioritization. We analyze the requirements of a mobile service, which were collected from Helsinki, Hong Kong, and Las Vegas. We argue that the current prioritization techniques for requirements do not sufficiently account for the cultural effects, nor does the literature offer information on ways of prioritizing such requirements according to users’ values. We see this as problematic because the literature suggests that culture should be viewed as a set of values. Our findings support the argument that we should use a value-based approach in prioritizing requirements. Furthermore, by focusing on the links between needs and val…
The role of pain and functional impairment in the decision to recommend total joint replacement in hip and knee osteoarthritis: an international cros…
2011
Import JabRef | WosArea Orthopedics; Rheumatology; International audience; Objective: To assess the pain and functional disability levels corresponding to an indication for total joint replacement (TJR) in hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: Design: International cross-sectional study in 10 countries. Patients: Consecutive outpatients with definite hip or knee OA attending an orthopaedic outpatient clinic. Gold standard measure for recommendation for TJR: Surgeon's decision that TJR is justified. Outcome measures: Pain (ICOAP: intermittent and constant osteoarthritis pain, 0-100) and functional impairment (HOOS-PS/KOOS-PS: Hip/Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Physical fun…
Multicriteria Prioritization for Multistage Implementation of Complex Urban Renewal Projects
2015
Renewal projects on neighborhood scale often include several sub projects aiming at fulfill the different functions of urban areas, while public funds or activated public-private partnership can be insufficient to face the implementation of subprojects simultaneously. Therefore single parts of wider projects are frequently realized at different period of time, according to the availability of public funds or the interest of private partners in the most profitable projects. Although a major organizational effort of funding could be necessary, a more rational approach is required, which will be able to identify the most suitable sequence of realization ensuring the greatest advantage if non c…
An information systems design product theory for the class of integrated requirements and release management systems
2010
High-tech companies conducting product development need to collect and analyze requirements effectively, plan and implement releases, and allocate requirements to appropriate releases. Requirements and release management are complicated because development activities typically are scattered across multiple sites, involve multiple partners in different countries, leverage various development methods and tools, and are realized through various organizational arrangements such as release projects in organizations structured around products and permanent release teams in organizations responsible for the long-term development and maintenance of strategic software and hardware assets. Flexible, …
Sustainability of national health services and justice: the case of new DAAs for HCV in Italy
2017
Background - Direct acting antivirals (DAAs) for hepatitis C virus (HCV) have quite changed the therapeutic routine in the last few years. Reported rates of sustained virological response (SVR), exceed 90% in all patients subgroups. Other, even more effective, DAAs combinations are being developed for use in the most difficult to treat and advanced patients, aiming for 100% of SVR in 100% of cases. The perspective is the eradication of HCV and reduction of main complications: liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Aim and Methodology - Dealing with justice issues related to DAAs for HCV in Italy through the anlysis of available literature and documentation. Results - The ethical prin…
An Information Systems Design Theory for Integrated Requirements and Release Management Systems
2009
High-tech companies need to collect and analy- ze requirements and allocate them to appropriate product releases in market-driven product development. Develop- ment activities are typically scattered across multiple sites and involve multiple partners in different countries, complicating requirements and release management. Fle- xible, scalable, and secure groupware-based support for the activities provides substantial payoffs. Yet, the extant literature provides little theoretical guidance for designing and using requirements and release management systems in multi-site, multi-partner environments. This article de- velops the meta-requirements and a meta-design of an Information Systems De…
Combined HACCP and TOPSIS-based approach to prioritize risks in the salmon manufacturing process: A case study
2017
The food safety risk assessment is defined by the Codex Alimentarius Commission as the scientific evaluation of known or potential adverse health effects resulting from human exposure to food-borne hazards. Nowadays, the implementation of a systematic and disciplined risk assessment approach in the food safety field is recognized to be a powerful tool for carrying out science-based analyses and for reaching sound consistent solutions to food safety problems. With this recognition, a combined Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS)-based approach is proposed in the present paper to prioritize risks of t…
STREAMLINING THE BUDGET PROCESS BY PRIORITIZING PUBLIC INVESTMENT PROJECTS
2014
The substantiation of the state budget for 2014 has also considered some measures to improve budget planning activities by prioritizing public investment projects. The prioritizing approach of public investment projects in the budget process is a particularly important and complex one, involving a set of coherent and responsible evaluation, selection and prioritization activities of such projects based on a well defined prioritizing criteria and mechanism. It was started in 2012, unfortunately not as an undertaking of public decision makers in Romania, but as a requirement of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in order to improve the budget process. The reason is the fact that n…

Development of an Agile Requirements Risk Prioritization Method : A Design Science Research Study
2023
The practice of information systems development (ISD) has changed during the past two decades from very structured approaches to agile ISD methods. However, many methods available for managing requirements-related risks in the literature follow the structured way of doing ISD. If any, few methods offer solutions to prioritize requirements risks for agile ISD projects based on recognizing requirements-related risks and patterns to mitigate these. To fill this gap in the literature, we apply the design science research methodology to develop an agile requirements risk prioritization method together with industry experts (n=54) in Finland and New Zealand in a multi-year study. The method was d…
