Digital zenith camera for vertical deflection determination

2012

Recent accomplishments in advancement of accurate astrometric reference star catalogues, development of digital imaging technology, high accuracy tiltmeter technology, and geocentric coordinate availability provided by GNSS, have made possible accurate, fast and automated determination of vertical deflections using astrometric methods. Zenith cameras for this kind of measurements have been developed or are being developed by several research groups. The paper describes a research project by Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation, intended to design a portable digital zenith camera for vertical deflection determination with 0.1” expected accuracy. Camera components are described, proposed d…

Digital signal processing applied to noisy acoustic data.

2007

Frequently we deal with analog data from noisy acoustic measurements which need a preprocessing prior to the extraction of the information embedded. Data deterioration may be due to several reasons, for example: data recording on obsolete and technological poor support; bad signal conditioning (poor signal-to-noise ratio, non linearity and/or timevariance of the system under test). Sometimes information to be extracted from data is not conventional so it needs a dedicated processing. In this paper a novel audio data processing method from the autors experience in ancient open-air theatres research is shown.

Linear Feature Extraction for Ranking

2018

We address the feature extraction problem for document ranking in information retrieval. We then propose LifeRank, a Linear feature extraction algorithm for Ranking. In LifeRank, we regard each document collection for ranking as a matrix, referred to as the original matrix. We try to optimize a transformation matrix, so that a new matrix (dataset) can be generated as the product of the original matrix and a transformation matrix. The transformation matrix projects high-dimensional document vectors into lower dimensions. Theoretically, there could be very large transformation matrices, each leading to a new generated matrix. In LifeRank, we produce a transformation matrix so that the generat…

Clinical evaluation of automated capillary refill time estimation in dogs and cats

2019

In this study, we clinically evaluated a pulse oximeter-based device for automated capillary refill time (CRT) estimation in dogs and cats. CRT can reveal conditions like shock or anemia in dogs and cats. However, visual CRT estimation has low repeatability, and the available optical systems for automated estimation are not suitable for pets. We evaluated a custom-made portable CRT measuring device on various measurement sites of 12 dogs and 11 cats with parallel visual CRT estimation on the gum by treating veterinarian. The capillary refill was also recorded by a video camera for reference. The visual and video procedures were moderately correlated with the coefficient of 0.61; visual CRT …

Nonlinear Time-Series Adaptation for Land Cover Classification

2017

Automatic land cover classification from satellite image time series is of paramount relevance to assess vegetation and crop status, with important implications in agriculture, biofuels, and food. However, due to the high cost and human resources needed to characterize and classify land cover through field campaigns, a recurrent limiting factor is the lack of available labeled data. On top of this, the biophysical–geophysical variables exhibit particular temporal structures that need to be exploited. Land cover classification based on image time series is very complex because of the data manifold distortions through time. We propose the use of the kernel manifold alignment (KEMA) method for…

DIFFERENT FORMS OF DYSGRAPHIA IN BRAIN-DAMAGED PATIENTS

2012

Normally a neurological accident (stroke, head injury, degenerative processes, tumour) to the left hemisphere produces disor- of linguistic functions (aphasia). Among these deficits, the comprehension (reading) and production (spelling) of written lan- guage are frequently altered. In this communication will be described the different types of acquired dysgraphia following a cerebral damage. A cognitive model of the spelling system is reported to explain the different level of processing that can be impaired. The aim is to highlight the complexity of the different clinical pictures that the dysgraphic patients can to show: indeed a careful diagno- sis on damaged cognitive functions and proc…

VEBO: Validation of E-R diagrams through ontologies and WordNet

2012

In the semantic web vision, ontologies are building blocks for providing applications with a high level description of the operating environment in support of interoperability and semantic capabilities. The importance of ontologies in this respect is clearly stated in many works. Another crucial issue to increase the semantic aspect of web is to enrich the level of expressivity of database related data. Nowadays, databases are the primary source of information for dynamical web sites. The linguistic data used to build the database structure could be relevant for extracting meaningful information. In most cases, this type of information is not used for information retrieval. The work present…

Towards Ecosystemic Stance in Finnish Public Sector Enterprise Architecture

2019

Governments and organizations in both public and private sector are operating in fields of ever-growing uncertainty and complexity. To study this complex environment, the concept of ecosystems has been suggested, interpreting organizations as intertwined systems among layers of evolving ecosystems. While offering possibilities, operating in an ecosystemic environment might prove to be challenging, and the change from traditional governance structures might be difficult to manage, requiring holistic yet detailed view. Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been an interest of academics and practitioners for few decades, offering one of the most prominent solutions to managing complex organizations…

Regularization Preserving Localization of Close Edges

2007

International audience; In this letter, we address the problem of the influence of neighbor edges and their effect on the edge delocalization while extracting a neighbor contour by a derivative approach. The properties to be fulfilled by the regularization operators to minimize or suppress this side effect are deduced, and the best detectors are pointed out. The study is carried out in 1-D for discrete signal. We show that among the derivative filters, one of them can correctly detect our model edges without being influenced by a neighboring transition, whatever their separation distance is and their respective amplitude is. A model of contour and close transitions is presented and used through…
