Effects of an Electrostimulation Training Program on Strength, Jumping, and Kicking Capacities in Soccer Players

The present study investigated the influence of a 5-week electrostimulation (EMS) training program on muscular strength, kicking velocity, sprint, and vertical jump performance in soccer players. Twenty amateur soccer players participated in the study, 10 in the electrostimulated group and the remaining 10 in a control group. Association of metabolic syndrome and its components with hyperuricemia in a Mediterranean population.

Several studies have found an association between hyperuricemia and metabolic syndrome (MS), although there are discrepancies as to which MS components play a pivotal role in this association. We aimed to investigate the association between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and MS in a Mediterranean population (eastern Spain). We performed a case-control study of 71 patients with MS and 122 healthy controls. MS was defined according to the revised National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III modified criteria. Hyperuricemia was defined as SUA levels >6.55 mg/dL. Numerous authors have reported the existence of lateralised abnormalities towards the right side in patients with schizophrenia.In the present study, a manual line bisection task was used to assess the existence of a visuospatial bias in patients with schizophrenia as compared to healthy subjects and left unilateral neglect patients. Neuromuscular adaptations to combined strength and endurance training: order and time-of-day

AbstractThe present study examined the effects of 24 weeks of morning vs. evening same-session combined strength (S) and endurance (E) training on neuromuscular and endurance performance. Fifty-one men were assigned to the morning (m) or evening (e) training group, where S preceded E or vice versa (SEm, ESm, SEe and ESe), or to the control group. Isometric force, voluntary activation, EMG and peak wattage during the maximal cycling test were measured. Training time did not significantly affect the adaptations. The purpose of the study was to investigate the behaviour of the central nervous system when 5 weeks of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) training was followed by 5 weeks of detraining. Nineteen males were divided into the neuromuscular electrostimulated group (EG, n=12) and the control group (CG, n=7). Teaching transurethral resection of the bladder: still a challenge?

Abstract Objectives To report on our 2-year experience in teaching transurethral resection (TUR) of bladder tumors to five trainees. We analyzed their problems, as well as those of the teachers, and present our solutions. Methods Between April 2000 and March 2002, five residents and three members of the staff took part in a training program to teach TUR of the bladder. From a total of 692 patients with bladder tumors admitted for treatment to our department, 417 were selected for the study. These 417 had papillary tumors of small to medium size (maximum 25 mm in diameter).
