Using knowledge of human-generated code to bias the search in program synthesis with grammatical evolution

Recent studies show that program synthesis with GE produces code that has different structure compared to human-generated code, e.g., loops and conditions are hardly used. In this article, we extract knowledge from human-generated code to guide evolutionary search. We use a large code-corpus that was mined from the open software repository service GitHub and measure software metrics and properties describing the code-base. We use this knowledge to guide the search by incorporating a new selection scheme. Our new selection scheme favors programs that are structurally similar to the programs in the GitHub code-base. Simple scheme for extracting work with a single bath

We propose a simple protocol exploiting the thermalization of a storage bipartite system S to extract work from a resource system R. The protocol is based on a recent work definition involving only a single bath. A general description of the protocol is provided without specifying the characteristics of S. We quantify both the extracted work and the ideal efficiency of the process, also giving maximum bounds for them. Then, we apply the protocol to two cases: two interacting qubits and the Rabi model. In a meta-analytical review, we differentiate between time perception (judgments of time intervals) and basic temporal processing (e.g., judgments of temporal order) as well as between effects on accuracy (deviation of estimates from the veridical value) and precision (variability of judgments). In this paper an approach to the optimization of the magnetic design of a Permanent Magnet (PM) linear generator for the exploitation of the energy contained in sea waves is presented. The selection of the most appropriate wastewater treatment (WWT) technology is a complex problem since many alternatives are available and many criteria are involved in the decision-making process. To deal with this challenge, the analytic network process (ANP) is applied for the first time to rank a set of seven WWT technology set-ups for secondary treatment in small communities. Integrable integral operator can be studied by means of a matrix Riemann--Hilbert problem. However, in the case of so-called integrable operators with shifts, the associated Riemann--Hilbert problem becomes operator valued and this complicates strongly the analysis. In this note, we show how to circumvent, in a very simple way, the use of such a setting while still being able to characterize the large-$x$ asymptotic behavior of the determinant associated with the operator.
