Correlators of left charges and weak operators in finite volume chiral perturbation theory

2002

We compute the two-point correlator between left-handed flavour charges, and the three-point correlator between two left-handed charges and one strangeness violating \Delta I=3/2 weak operator, at next-to-leading order in finite volume SU(3)_L x SU(3)_R chiral perturbation theory, in the so-called epsilon-regime. Matching these results with the corresponding lattice measurements would in principle allow to extract the pion decay constant F, and the effective chiral theory parameter g_27, which determines the \Delta I = 3/2 amplitude of the weak decays K to \pi\pi as well as the kaon mixing parameter B_K in the chiral limit. We repeat the calculations in the replica formulation of quenched c…

Non-perturbative renormalization of lattice operators in coordinate space

2004

We present the first numerical implementation of a non-perturbative renormalization method for lattice operators, based on the study of correlation functions in coordinate space at short Euclidean distance. The method is applied to compute the renormalization constants of bilinear quark operators for the non-perturbative O(a)-improved Wilson action in the quenched approximation. The matching with perturbative schemes, such as MS-bar, is computed at the next-to-leading order in continuum perturbation theory. A feasibility study of this technique with Neuberger fermions is also presented.

Detection of a structural impact in liquid metal flow during test runs of the EURISOL target mock-up

2009

Abstract The many possible applications of Liquid Metal (LM) technology promise improved thermal efficiency, which can provide much-needed impetus to finding solutions for the growing world energy needs, as well as increasing the accuracy and power of certain delicate scientific apparatus used in the materials and biological sciences. The development of appropriate safeguards and instrumentation is critical to continued progress in this area of technology. During the hydraulic test of the EURISOL liquid metal target, a component failure was registered by the instrumentation; its detection in the presence of liquid metal flow was critical to ensuring the safety of both the personnel and the …

Meson retardation in deuteron electrodisintegration

2004

The effect of meson retardation in $NN$-interaction and exchange currents on deuteron electrodisintegration is studied in a coupled channel approach including $NN$-, $N \Delta$- and $\pi d$-channels. It is shown that the influence of retardation depends on the energy regime: Whereas below $\pi$-threshold calculations with static and retarded operators yield almost identical results, they differ significantly in the $\Delta$-region. Especially, the longitudinal and the longitudinal-transverse interference structure functions are strongly affected.

Search for newπ0-like particles produced in association with aτ-lepton pair

2014

We report on a search in e^+e^− annihilations for new π^0-like particles produced in association with a τ-lepton pair. These objects, with a similar mass and similar decay modes to π^0 mesons, could provide an explanation for the non-asymptotic behavior of the pion-photon transition form factor observed by the BABAR Collaboration. No significant signal is observed, and limits on the production cross section at the level of 73 fb or 370 fb, depending on the model parameters, are determined at 90% confidence level. These upper limits lie below the cross section values needed to explain the BABAR form factor data.

Configuration mixing and total muon capture rates

1973

Abstract We modify the Primakoff closure approximation to get independence on the mean neutrino energy and energy weighted sum rules are used for the corrective terms. A near model - independent discussion is then possible, and the total rates are shown to be a very sensitive tool to investigate configuration mixing of the target. Wild discrepancies with experiment would arise if the limit of pure jj or LS couplings are used for 12 C, whereas the Cohen-Kurath wave function gives a very good result.

On total muon capture rates and the average neutrino energy

1973

A method of avoiding the uncertainty associated with the average neutrino energy nu in the usual closure approach to muon capture rates is discussed. Instead of neglecting the kinematic dependence on each particular channel, the partial capture rate is approximated by a first-order expansion around nu . After the sum over the final states is performed, the result is quite independent of the specific value of nu . Application to /sup 3/He, /sup 6/Li and closed-shell nuclei is given, as an effective test of the nuclear models used. (17 refs).

Search for exclusive photoproduction ofZc±(3900) at COMPASS

2015

A search for the exclusive production of the Z(c)(+/-)(3900) hadron by virtual photons has been performed in the channel Z(c)(+/-)(3900). J/Psi pi(+/-). The data cover the range from 7GeV to 19GeV in the centre-of- mass energy of the photon-nucleon system. The full set of the COMPASS data set collected with a muon beam between 2002 and 2011 has been used. An upper limit for the ratio BR(Z(c)(+/-)(3900)-> J/Psi pi(+/-)) x sigma(gamma N) -> Z(c)(+/-)(3900) N/sigma gamma N -> J/Psi N 3.7 x10(-3) has been established at the confidence level of90%. Neutrino masses from operator mixing

2002

We show that in theories that reduce, at the Fermi scale, to an extension of the standard model with two doublets, there can be additional dimension five operators giving rise to neutrino masses. In particular there exists a singlet operator which can not generate neutrino masses at tree level but generates them through operator mixing. Under the assumption that only this operator appears at tree level we calculate the neutrino mass matrix. It has the Zee mass matrix structure and leads naturally to bimaximal mixing. However, the maximal mixing prediction for solar neutrinos is very sharp even when higher order corrections are considered. To allow for deviations from maximal mixing a fine t…

Studying Indirect Violation of CP, T and CPT in a B-factory

2000

In this work we analyze the observable asymmetries one can build from entangled B-meson states, in order to extract information on the parameters epsilon and delta which govern indirect violation of discrete symmetries. The traditionally proposed observables, based on flavour tags, are not helpful for the study of the Bd-system, where the tiny value of the width difference between physical states clears up such asymmetry effects. Our study makes instead use of CP tags in order to build new asymmetries where the different parameters can be separated out. For this separation, it is decisive to achieve a good time resolution in the measurement of entangled state decays. Nevertheless, even with…
