Randomized multicenter comparison of two coatings of intramobile cylinder implants in 313 partially edentulous mandibles followed up for 5 years

2002

Intramobile cylinder (IMZ) implants with either of two coatings, hydroxyapatite (HA) or titanium plasma-flame (TPF), as distal abutments for combined tooth implant-supported restorations, were compared in 313 partially edentulous mandibles with respect to postprosthetical failure patterns and complication frequencies in a randomized multicenter clinical trial. Within the treatment protocols, the two coatings do not show evidence of different efficacy with respect to occurrence of postprosthetical integration deficiency (ID) or functional deficiency (FD). Statistical equivalence for an absolute effect of +/-15% in event-free survival could only be demonstrated for FD, not for ID, however. In…

2018

GECKILI, ONUR/0000-0002-7852-3915; dayan, suleyman cagatay/0000-0003-3081-9618; Bilhan, Hakan/0000-0003-1787-3003 WOS:000460131200015 PubMed ID: 30818319 Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinicians' experience on maintaining the primary stability of implants with aggressive threads belonging to a novel dental implant system. Material and Methods: Three hundred implants with aggressive threads were inserted in fresh bovine ribs mimicking Type IV bone by five clinicians which were classified according to their previous experience of total number of implant insertion. An independent examiner measured the primary stability of all implants after insertion by using resonan…

Modular Small Diameter Vascular Grafts with Bioactive Functionalities.

2015

We report the fabrication of a novel type of artificial small diameter blood vessels, termed biomimetic tissue-engineered blood vessels (bTEBV), with a modular composition. They are composed of a hydrogel scaffold consisting of two negatively charged natural polymers, alginate and a modified chitosan, N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (N,O-CMC). Into this biologically inert scaffold two biofunctionally active biopolymers are embedded, inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) and silica, as well as gelatin which exposes the cell recognition signal, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD). These materials can be hardened by exposure to Ca(2+) through formation of Ca(2+) bridges between the polyanions, alginate, N,O-CMC, and polyP…

Long-Term Results of Fixation-Free Incisional Hernia Repair Using a Tentacle-Shaped Implant

2017

INTRODUCTION: The fixation and the overlap of the mesh represent an open issue in incisional hernia repair. An exclusively designed prosthesis has been developed to assure a suture-free repair and a broader coverage of the abdominal wall. This study describes the long-term results of incisional hernia procedures carried out positioning a tentacle-shaped implant through a specifically developed surgical technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A proprietary symmetrically-shaped flat mesh constituted by a large central body with integrated radiating arms was used to repair incisional hernias in 68 patients. The prosthesis was placed in preperitoneal/retromuscular sublay. The friction of the straps p…

Assessing osseointegration of metallic implants with boronized surface treatment

2020

Background Modification of endosteal implants through surface treatments have been investigated to improve osseointegration. Boronization has demonstrated favorable mechanical properties, but limited studies have assessed translational, in vivo outcomes. This study investigated the effect of implant surface boronization on bone healing. Material and Methods Two implant surface roughness profiles (acid etched, machined) in CP titanium (type II) alloy implants were boronized by solid-state diffusion until 10-15µm boron coating was achieved. The surface-treated implants were placed bilaterally into 5 adult sheep ilia for three and six weeks. Four implant groups were tested: boronized machined …

Four color-measuring devices compared with a spectrophotometric reference system

2009

Abstract Objectives The objective of this study was to compare the L*C*h° color coordinates of dental color-measuring devices with those of a spectrophotometric reference system. Methods The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) L*C*h° color coordinates of ceramic samples, matching the colors of the VITA Linearguide, were recorded using four color-measuring devices (VITA Easyshade (A), VITA Easyshade compact (B), Degudent Shadepilot (C), X-Rite Shadevision (D)) and a spectrophotometric reference system under standardized test conditions. The intraclass correlation coefficients, regression lines with coefficients of determination, and mean deviations of the dental color-measuring de…

Feasibility of a MPR-based 3DTEE guidance protocol for transcatheter direct mitral valve annuloplasty.

2020

Objectives Several interventional approaches have been established for the treatment of severe mitral regurgitation (MR) in patients at elevated risk for surgery. Direct annuloplasty is a relatively novel option in transcatheter mitral valve repair dedicated to reverse pathology in specific subsets of MR. With regard to echocardiographic guidance, this procedure presents with higher efforts in comparison with edge-to-edge therapy to enable safe and exact positioning of the device's anchors; evidence on optimal peri-interventional imaging is sparse. We tested a specific 3D-echo-guidance protocol implementing single-beat multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) and evaluated its feasibility. Methods …

Simulation of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction in transcatheter mitral valve-in-ring replacement.

2020

Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction is a feared complication of transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). This procedure leads to an elongation of LVOT in the left ventricle (namely, the neoLVOT), ultimately portending hemodynamic impairment and death. This study sought to understand the biomechanical implications of LVOT obstruction in two patients who underwent TMVR as an "off-label" application of the Edwards SAPIEN 3 (S3) Ultra transcatheter heart valve (THV). A computational framework of TMVR was developed to assess the neoLVOT area and quantify the sub-aortic flow structure. We observed that the annuloplasty ring serves as the key anchor zone of S3 Ultra THV. A good…

Minimal Reporting Standards for Active Middle Ear Hearing Implants.

2017

There is currently no standardized method for reporting audiological, surgical and subjective outcome measures in clinical trials with active middle ear implants (AMEIs). It is often difficult to compare studies due to data incompatibility and to perform meta-analyses across different centres is almost impossible. A committee of ENT and audiological experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland decided to address this issue by developing new minimal standards for reporting the outcomes of AMEI clinical trials. The consensus presented here aims to provide a recommendation to enable better inter-study comparability.
