Socioeconomic and Medical Approaches upon Pensions Systems
2021
The social protection of citizens was an essential issue for all countries, regardless of the form of government, sociocultural characteristics, and economic system. In this chapter, we aim to identify the factors, which determined the configuration of the current pension systems implemented in the five CEE countries.
Overview of Pension Systems
2021
Understanding the configuration of social protection and pension systems can be achieved only from a sociohistorical perspective upon the framework in which these emerged and developed.
The comparative biological effects of spatial management measures in protecting marine biodiversity: a systematic review protocol
2015
Background: The global decline of marine biodiversity and the perceived need to protect marine ecosystems from irreparable alterations to ecosystem functioning and ecosystem service provision have produced an extensive range of spatial management measures (SMMs). The design of SMMs is a complex process often involving the integration of both conservation objectives and socio-economic priorities and the resultant trade-offs are highly dependent on the management regime in place. Future marine management is likely to involve greater use of different forms of protected areas with differing levels of protection, particularly for sites where there are multiple competing demands. Consequently, ev…
Problems of the Continental Permian in the Federal Republic of Germany
1976
The occurrences of Continental Permian in the Federal Republic of Germany are generally well understood but some problems remain. These are outlined and discussed in the present paper.
Pesticide residues in Lake Albufera, Valencia, Spain.
1987
Abstract Analysis of water samples from the lake in Albufera, Valencia, indicates that the pesticides molinate, benthiocarb, and fenitrothion do not reach levels that are lethal to fish.
A photoelectrochemical study on anodic tantalum oxide films
1993
Both anodic and cathodic photocurrents have been detected on tantalum oxide films depending on polarization. The optical band gap, E g opt , has been derived for anodic films grown in different conditions as well as for native oxides. Cathodic photocurrents at hv<E g opt have been attributed to electron injection at the metal/oxide interface. A change in the sign of the photocurrent with the wavelength of the incident light has been observed near to the flat band potential. The latter has been estimated from the fitting of the photocurrent vs potential curves
Brachytherapy structural shielding calculations using Monte Carlo generated, monoenergetic data
2014
Purpose: To provide a method for calculating the transmission of any broad photon beam with a known energy spectrum in the range of 20–1090 keV, through concrete and lead, based on the superposition of corresponding monoenergetic data obtained from Monte Carlo simulation. Methods: MCNP5 was used to calculate broad photon beam transmission data through varying thickness of lead and concrete, for monoenergetic point sources of energy in the range pertinent to brachytherapy (20–1090 keV, in 10 keV intervals). The three parameter empirical model introduced byArcher et al. [“Diagnostic x-ray shielding design based on an empirical model of photon attenuation,” Health Phys. 44, 507–517 (1983)] was…
Topological protection of highly entangled non-Gaussian two-photon states
2021
Abstract We study theoretically the evolution of entangled non-Gaussian two-photon states in disordered topological lattices. Specifically, we consider spatially entangled two-photon states, modulated by Laguerre polynomials up to the 3rd order, which feature ring-shaped spatial and spectral correlation patterns. Such states are discrete analogs of photon-subtracted squeezed states, which are ubiquitous in optical quantum information processing or sensing applications. We find that, in general, a higher degree of entanglement coincides with a loss of topological protection against disorder, this is in line with previous results for Gaussian two-photon states. However, we identify a particul…
Radiation dose distribution around a mobile linear accelerator Mobetron using Monte Carlo simulation
2016
The aim of this work is to analyze the scattered radiation produced by the mobile accelerator Mobetron. To do so detailed Monte Carlo simulation using two different codes, Penelope2011 and Geant4, were performed. Experimental measurements were also done to validate them. To quantify the attenuation of the internal structures present in the accelerator head on the scattered radiation produced, some of the main structural shielding in the Mobetron has been incorporated into the simulation. Results are compared with experimental measurements. Some discrepancies between the calculated and measured dose values were found. These differences can be traced back to the importance of the radiation co…
