A Double-Hurdle model of urban green areas valuation: Dealing with zero responses

Due to the widespread support for public parks and open spaces in urban areas, there is an increasing need to analyse the social benefits that are generated by such amenities. The city of Valencia (Spain) has a large park that can be considered its green backbone due to its transversal layout running along 9 of the 19 districts into which the city is divided. A contingent valuation survey was therefore conducted in order to obtain the non-market benefits derived from the use of this park by the inhabitants of Valencia. Artikkelissa tutkitaan lapsille suunnattujen kaupunkiympäristöjen ja erityisesti ohjattujen leikkikenttien kehittymistä 1970-luvun Helsingissä. Lasten ympäristöjä ja niiden suunnitteluun vaikuttaneita lapsikäsityksiä tarkastellaan kolmen tason, rakennetun ympäristön, leikkikenttien arjen ja hyvinvointivaltion viitekehyksen kautta. Tutkimusaineistona on käytetty suunnitteludokumentteja, lapsista ja kaupunkiympäristöistä käytyä asiantuntijakeskustelua, sanomalehtikirjoituksia sekä entisten leikkikenttätoimijoiden kanssa tehtyjä haastatteluja. In Italy, in the last two decades, land consumption has reached an average rate of 8 m2, demonstrating the failure of urban planning in controlling these phenomena. Despite the renewed recognition of the central role of soil resources, which has triggered numerous initiatives and actions, soil resources are still seen as a second-tier priority. No governance body exists to coordinate initiatives to ensure that soils are appropriately represented in decision-making processes.
