Female-female aggression and female mate choice on black grouse leks.

We studied female-female aggression in relation to female mate choice in black grouse, Tetrao tetrix, in central Finland, in 1994-1998. Aggression occurred on average every other minute when there was more than one female on a territory, and aggressive behaviour was most prominent when several females attended the lek. Interactions tended to be proportionally most frequent on the territories of the highest-ranking males, although not significantly so. Females that were chased by other females did not mate with lower-ranking males than their aggressors did. The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of Centaurea amanicola Hub.-Mor., Centaurea consanguinea DC. and Centaurea ptosimopappa Hayek were extracted by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and GC–MS. Altogether 94 components were identified. Sesquiterpenoids, fatty acids and carbonylic compounds were the most abundant components in the oils. Hexadecanoic acid and (Z,Z )-9,12-octadecadienoic acid were the main fatty acids in all the examined samples, that showed different patterns of composition. The study on the biological activity of the oils showed an action mainly against the Gram-positive pathogens.

Sono stati precedentemente sintetizzati complessi mono- e polinucleari di Pt(II) [1, 2] che hanno mostrato attività citotossica maggiore del cisplatino. Tre nuovi complessi mononucleari di Pt(II) analoghi del cisplatino sono stati quindi in seguito preparati usando leganti eterociclici quali: 5,6-difenil-3-(2-piridil)-1,2,4-triazina-4’,4’’-disulfonato sodico (dptdn), 5,6-difenil-3-(2-piridil)-1,2,4-triazina (dpt) e 2,6-bis(2-benzimidazolil)piridina (bbp). Con lo scopo di trovare nuovi analoghi del Cis-DDP (cis-diammino dicloro platino(II)) nuovi complessi del platino sono stati sintetizzati, caratterizzati e ne è stata studiata l’attività antitumorale in vitro [1]. Recentemente sono stati preparati complessi con metalli del quarto periodo di transizione con entrambi i leganti, dipirido[3,2-a:2’,3’-c]fenazina (dppz) e glicinato (gly) [2].
