Midregion PTHrP and Human Breast Cancer Cells

2010

PTHrP is a polyhormone undergoing proteolytic processing into smaller bioactive forms, comprising an N-terminal peptide, which is the mediator of the “classical” PTH-like effect, as well as midregion and C-terminal peptides. The midregion PTHrP domain (38-94)-amide was found to restrain growth and invasionin vitroof some breast cancer cell lines, causing striking toxicity and accelerating death; the most responsive being MDA-MB231, whose tumorigenesis was also attenuatedin vivo. In addition, midregion PTHrP appears to be imported in the nucleoplasm of cultured MDA-MB231 cells andin vitro, it can bind chromatin of metaphase spread preparations and also an isolated 20-mer oligonucleotide, the…

Strong Bonding of Single C60 Molecules to (1 × 2)-Pt(110): an STM/DFT Investigation.

2007

International audience; The interaction of single C60 molecules with the (1 × 2)-Pt(110) surface has been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations on slab models. Molecules are observed to be frozen at room temperature and are found to be almost exclusively in the same configuration. Extensive DFT calculations show that this configuration is the global energy minimum, suggesting that adsorbed molecules have enough rototranslational freedom to escape from the numerous local minima. The adsorption energy (3.81 eV) is the strongest ever found for C60, and it is roughly proportional to the number of the Pt and C atoms at contact distance. Analysi…

A case of infective endocarditis due to Salmonella enterica phagetype 35. First report

2017

Infective Endocarditis (IE) has high morbidity and mortality. To date, in addition to classic Gram-positive pathogens were isolated exigent Gram negative bacteria responsible of endocarditis as A. baumannii, A. lwoffii, C. burnetii, Bartonella, Chlamydia and Legionella. We report our experience about the isolation of Salmonella enterica phagetype 35 (PT35) from blood heart cavity of a 74-year-old woman after having consumed a portion of baked pasta bought in a rotisserie. Cardiovascular infections due to Salmonella enterica are infrequently reported, so their clinical features, prognosis, and optimal treatment are not completely known. To the best of our knowledge, after careful evaluation …

Imidazo[2,1-b] [1,3,4]thiadiazoles with antiproliferative activity against primary and gemcitabine-resistant pancreatic cancer cells

2020

A new series of eighteen imidazo [2,1-b] [1,3,4]thiadiazole derivatives was efficiently synthesized and screened for antiproliferative activity against the National Cancer Institute (NCI-60) cell lines panel. Two out of eighteen derivatives, compounds 12a and 12h, showed remarkably cytotoxic activity with the half maximal inhibitory concentration values (IC50) ranging from 0.23 to 11.4 μM, and 0.29–12.2 μM, respectively. However, two additional compounds, 12b and 13g, displayed remarkable in vitro antiproliferative activity against pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cell lines, including immortalized (SUIT-2, Capan-1, Panc-1), primary (PDAC-3) and gemcitabine-resistant (Panc-1R), elici…

A critical conspectus of ItalianIsoetes(Isoetaceae)

2014

The work on the Isoetaceae account for the Critical Flora of Italy has resulted in a new, synonymic inventory of Italian Isoetes taxa, based on herbarium studies, observation by scanning electron microscopy and critical re-examination of the previously published works. Ten species are listed. The names I. longissima and I. gymnocarpa are restored as correct, to replace I. velata and I. subinermis, respectively. Eighteen lectotypes, one epitype and one neotype are designated. A dichotomous key to Italian taxa is provided.

Sirolimus treatment of severe PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome: case report and in vitro studies

2013

Background: Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) hamartoma tumor syndrome (PHTS) is caused by germ line mutations in the PTEN gene. Symptoms include cancer pre- disposition, immune deviations, and lipomas/lipomatosis. No causal standard therapy is available. We describe a therapeutic attempt with the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor sirolimus for a PHTS patient suffering from thymus hyperplasia and lipomatosis. We furthermore assessed the in vitro effects of sirolimus and other inhibitors on lipoma cells of the patient. Methods: The patient underwent clinical and blood examinations and whole-body magnetic resonance imaging to assess tumor sizes. Lipoma cells of the patient we…

Monolingual and cross-lingual intent detection without training data in target languages

2021

Due to recent DNN advancements, many NLP problems can be effectively solved using transformer-based models and supervised data. Unfortunately, such data is not available in some languages. This research is based on assumptions that (1) training data can be obtained by the machine translating it from another language
