Comparison of ground reaction forces and antagonist muscle coactivation during stair walking with ageing

Abstract Stair walking is a demanding task in old age. Ground reaction force (GRF) analysis, relative EMG activation, and muscular coactivation were performed during stair walking. The aim was to investigate the ageing effect on GRF distribution and muscle antagonist coactivation during stair walking, at varied speed. During ascending at maximal velocity old subjects demonstrated reduced GRF in all examined phases (range: 28–35%), whereas muscle coactivation only was elevated for the Entire stance phase (18.5%). Effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation frequency on postprandial glycemia, current-related discomfort, and muscle soreness. A crossover study

Consensus is lacking regarding optimal neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) parameters for postprandial glycemic control. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the NMES frequency inducing the greatest hypoglycemic effect in healthy individuals. The secondary aim was to compare current-related discomfort and muscle soreness between different frequencies. We conducted an experimental clinical study with a randomized crossover design. Resistance training (RT) may improve metabolic health; however, the extent of its effectiveness is constantly evaluated to assess improvements in the group means, thus obscuring the heterogeneous individual effects. Associations of Maximal Strength and Muscular Endurance with Cardiovascular Risk Factors

The aim was to study the associations of maximal strength and muscular endurance with single and clustered cardiovascular risk factors. Muscular endurance, maximal strength, cardiorespiratory fitness and waist circumference were measured in 686 young men (25±5 years). Cardiovascular risk factors (plasma glucose, serum high- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure) were determined. The aims of this study were to analyze tactical behavior (direct attacks and indirect attacks, in addition to anticipatory, simultaneous, and posterior counterattacks) according to competition round and match, and to compare tactics of competitors (winners and nonwinners) in a university taekwondo championship.
