The Magmatic to Hydrothermal Evolution of the Intrusive Mont Saint-Hilaire Complex: Insights into the Late-stage Evolution of Peralkaline Rocks

2017

The Cretaceous Mont Saint-Hilaire complex (Quebec, Canada) comprises three major rock units that were emplaced in the following sequence: (I) gabbros; (II) diorites; (III) diverse partly agpaitic foid syenites. The major element compositions of the rock-forming minerals, age-corrected Nd and oxygen isotope data for mineral separates and trace element data of Fe-Mg silicates from the various lithologies imply a common source for all units. The distribution of the rare earth elements in clinopyroxene from the gabbros indicates an ocean island basalt type composition for the parental magma. Gabbros record temperatures of 1200 to 800 degrees C, variable silica activities between 0 center dot 7 …

Sediment yield from glacio-lacustrine calcareous deposits during the postglacial period in the Combe d’Ain (Jura, France)

1998

The middle valley of the river Ain (Jura) cuts through glacio-lacustrine deposits laid down in an ice-dammed lake during the most recent glacial advance. The total volume eroded is about 6·21 ×10 8 m 3 for a surface area of 3·7 ×10 7 m 2 . Erosion occurred between 18 ka BP and 6 ka BP, i.e. over a duration of some 12 ka. Sediment yield from the area was of the order of 2500 t km -2 a -1 , which is comparable with modern-day sediment yield from NW African badlands. These high values are ascribed to the amenability of glacio-lacustrine deposits to mechanical weathering and to the rapid geomorphological changes that affected glacial and paraglacial sedimentary cover after the retreat of the ic…

Atmospheric Lead Deposition into Guarapina Lagoon, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

1988

The rate of anthropogenic mobilization of heavy metals is higher than the natural supply to the sedimentary environments. I n rivers, lakes and various other terrestrial areas, the drastic increase of heavy metals has been accredited to human activity (Tyler 1972). Erlenkeuser et al. (1974) suggest that Cd, Pb, Zn and Cu in the upper sediment sequence of sediment cores collected from Kiel Bight in the Baltic Sea, are the result of fossil fuel use in industries. Such assemblages have been identified in North America by Goldberg et al. (1977, 1979) from both coastal regions. Sediment cores taken from the deepest part of lakes and lagoons have been analysed to study the historical development …

10. Holocene and Eemian varve types of Eifel maar lake sediments

2007

Abstract Varves of the Holocene and of the last interglacial were investigated in two sediment sequences from Eifel maar lakes. The modern maar with Schalkenmehrener Maar Lake and the dry maar lake West Hoher List have the same size, are two kilometres apart at the same altitude, but the Eemian lake was much deeper. The sediments of both lakes are dominated by autochthonous sediments, mainly from diatom-dominated algae. Differences in the palaeoproductivity and in calcite precipitation are probably not climatically controlled but due to lake basin morphometry and the carbonate reservoir in the catchment areas. The occurrence of dry periods with aeolian dust deposition during the last interg…

Prediction of type 2 diabetes mellitus based on nutrition data

2021

Abstract Numerous predictive models for the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) exist, but a minority of them has implemented nutrition data so far, even though the significant effect of nutrition on the pathogenesis, prevention and management of T2DM has been established. Thus, in the present study, we aimed to build a predictive model for the risk of T2DM that incorporates nutrition data and calculates its predictive performance. We analysed cross-sectional data from 1591 individuals from the population-based Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg (KORA) FF4 study (2013–14) and used a bootstrap enhanced elastic net penalised multivariate regression method in order to bu…

Frailty and emergency surgery in the elderly: protocol of a prospective, multicenter study in Italy for evaluating perioperative outcome (The FRAILES…

2018

Improvements in living conditions and progress in medical management have resulted in better quality of life and longer life expectancy. Therefore, the number of older people undergoing surgery is increasing. Frailty is often described as a syndrome in aged patients where there is augmented vulnerability due to progressive loss of functional reserves. Studies suggest that frailty predisposes elderly to worsening outcome after surgery. Since emergency surgery is associated with higher mortality rates, it is paramount to have an accurate stratification of surgical risk in such patients. The aim of our study is to characterize the clinicopathological findings, management, and short-term outcom…

Representative major element compositions of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from ultrapotassic rocks from Nangqian basin (Eastern Tibet)

2020

Representative major element compositions (in wt%) of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from Nangqian ultrapotassic rocks. In-situ major-element compositions of mineral phases were obtained using the JEOL JXA-8230 Electron Microprobe at ISTerre, University Grenoble Alpes. Analytical conditions were 15 kV accelerating voltage and 12 nA beam current. The ZAF procedure was applied to reduce the raw data. The microprobe was calibrated using natural and synthetic standards. An X-ray element map of a calcite-bearing aggregate was acquired using 15 kV accelerating voltage and 10 nA beam current.

Chemical composition of modern and fossil Hippopotamid teeth and implications for paleoenvironmental reconstructions and enamel formation – Part 1: M…

2012

Bioapatite in mammalian teeth is readily preserved in continental sediments and represents a very important archive for reconstructions of environment and climate evolution. This project provides a comprehensive data base of major, minor and trace element and isotope tracers for tooth apatite using a variety of microanalytical techniques. The aim is to identify specific sedimentary environments and to improve our understanding on the interaction between internal metabolic processes during tooth formation and external nutritional control and secondary alteration effects. Here, we use the electron microprobe to determine the major and minor element contents of fossil and modern molar enamel, …

Strontium isotopes as tracers of water-rocks interactions, mixing processes and residence time indicator of groundwater within the granite-carbonate …

2016

This study aims at identifying the water-rock interactions and mixing rates within a complex granite-carbonate coastal aquifer under high touristic pressure. Investigations have been carried out within the coastal aquifer of Bonifacio (southern Corsica, France) mainly composed of continental granitic weathering products and marine calcarenite sediments filling a granitic depression. A multi-tracer approach combining physico-chemical parameters, major ions, selected trace elements, stable isotopes of the water molecule and 87Sr/86Sr ratios measurements is undertaken for 20 groundwater samples during the low water period in November 2014. 5 rock samples of the sedimentary deposits and surroun…

2019

A compilation of previously published and unpublished absolute age (OSL and TL) determinations of aeolian sediments from the north-eastern part of European Sand Belt. Contains age, error, sampling depth, location etc. and a reference to data source. Coordinates of sampling locations for contemporary publications are taken from field observations (GPS), but older ones - published schematic maps. Data set is created according to schema of DATED-1 database (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.848117).
