Riccobono e la critica interpolazionistica
2020
Riccobono’s method of textual criticism of the Roman legal sources was developed in Berlin at the school of Gradenwitz, and subsequently finalized during his studies in Rome with Scialoja. Already in his first publications he showed awareness towards a reluctant application of the interpolationistic method. Riccobono addressed the weakness of textual criticism of Humanistic Jurisprudence and stressed the validity of the approach of the Italian glossators and commentators. The controversy on the correct use of the interpolationistic method linked ideological aspects to the desire to defend the ‘romanità’ of the Corpus iuris ciuilis. Even after the decline of this method of researching the so…
L'eredità di Salvatore Riccobono. Atti dell'Incontro internazionale di studi (Palermo, 29-30 marzo 2019)
2020

2012
With all the rhetorical amplification of some formulas, realism and accuracy of the testimony by the rhetor Libanius of Antioch on the arbitrary administration of justice by the governors of Syriac metropolis impress the mark of cruelty upon the judicial practice of the time: tortures to wrest confessions or testimonies distinguished themselves by their unusual brutality. The study of the criminal justice system leads to a sociological analysis, although the juridical and social status was losing importance in light of the gravity of the crimen.
"Dżafar z Bagdadu" Janusza Makarczyka jako cenne źródło wiedzy o historii i literaturze arabskiej epoki Abbasydów
2018
This article deals with Janusz Makarczyk’s bestselling historical romance Jafar of Baghdad, first published in 1950. Makarczyk had a varied career as a journalist, travel writer of the ‘globtrotter school’, military officer, diplomat and academic; his deep involvement with the Middle East and Arab history began in the 1926 when he was sent to the Polish consulate in Jerusalem. The life of Jafar ibn Yahya provided him not only with enough material for a gripping story of love and romance but also a pretext for painting a broad canvas of historical events and personages. Addressed to younger readers, the book is didactic in the sense that it offers them basic information about Islam (e.g. the…
The transformation of the Horatian Sabine farm in Persius? Satire 6
2020
The purpose of this article is to focus on the motif of the countryside in Roman satire. In particular, it aspires to study the way the Sabine farm is delineated in Horace's Satire 2.6 and later in his Epistles, in order to elucidate the evolution of this motif in Persius? 6th Satire. In this poem, Persius addresses Caesius Bassus, who retreats to Sabine to seek poetic inspiration, but seems trapped in the paths of earlier poetry and cannot attain bliss, while the poet achieves it in the port of Luna.
