Forward Kinematic Modelling with Radial Basis Function Neural Network Tuned with a Novel Meta-Heuristic Algorithm for Robotic Manipulators

2022

The complexity of forward kinematic modelling increases with the increase in the degrees of freedom for a manipulator. To reduce the computational weight and time lag for desired output transformation, this paper proposes a forward kinematic model mapped with the help of the Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) architecture tuned by a novel meta-heuristic algorithm, namely, the Cooperative Search Optimisation Algorithm (CSOA). The architecture presented is able to automatically learn the kinematic properties of the manipulator. Learning is accomplished iteratively based only on the observation of the input–output relationship. Related simulations are carried out on a 3-Degrees…

Efficacy of the fungicide valiphenal against crown rot of rose caused by Phytophthora citrophthora

2009

Crown and root rot caused by soilborne species of Phytophthora are common diseases of container-grown ornamental plants in nursery. Crown rot of Rose caused by P. citrophthora has been recently reported in Sicily (southern Italy). Valiphenal (IR 5885) is a systemic dipeptide fungicide of the valinamide class of compounds and is active against Oomycetes. This new fungicide is under development by the italian agrochemical company ISAGRO against powdery mildews of grapevine, potatoes and vegetables. In this study, the efficacy of Valiphenal and other experimental active ingredients was tested for the first time against crown rot of Rose. Phosetyl-Al (Aliette) was used as a reference product. M…

Molecular docking and pharmacogenomics of vinca alkaloids and their monomeric precursors, vindoline and catharanthine.

2011

International audience; Vinblastine and vincristine are dimeric indole alkaloids derived from (formerly: ). Their monomeric precursor molecules are vindoline and catharanthine. While vinblastine and vincristine are well-known mitotic spindle poisons, not much is known about vindoline and catharanthine. Vindoline and catharanthine showed weak cytotoxicity, while vinblastine, vincristine, and the semisynthetic vindesine and vinorelbine revealed high cytotoxicity towards cancer cells. This may reflect a general biological principle of poisonous plants. Highly toxic compounds are not only active towards predators, but also towards plant tissues. Hence, plants need mechanisms to protect themselv…

Isolation and characterization of intergeneric somatic hybrids in the Apocynaceae family

1991

Protoplasts were isolated from callus cultures of Rauwolfia serpentina Benth., Rhazya stricta Decaisne, and Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don, or from leaves of Vinca minor L. Protoplast isolation, culture, and fusion techniques as well as hybrid screening systems were developed for these species, and hybrids were obtained. Hybrid combinations were Rauwolfia + Vinca, Rauwolfia + Catharanthus, Rauwolfia + Rhazya, and Catharanthus + Vinca. For hybrid isolation, the physiological complementation method was utilized. Analyses of the material obtained included a cytogenetic study of the chromosomes, a study of multiple molecular forms of transferases and esterases, and the blot hybridization of re…

Francisco Pizarro de Rosa Arciniega-Un intento de legitimación de la voz de una historiadora

2022

A reading of the historical novel Francisco Pizarro, written by the Peruvian Rosa Arciniega in 1936, is proposed. Through the analysis of the work, we will reflect on the relationship of the writer with the national historiography and with the ideal of a woman who dominated Latin American political and cultural discourse in the first half of the 20th century. From this, we seek to identify the place that the author constructs for herself within the intellectual field.

Ancient wood of the Acqualadrone rostrum: Materials history through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and sulfur X-ray absorption spectroscopy

2012

In 2008 the rostrum from an ancient warship was recovered from the Mediterranean near Acqualadrone, Sicily. To establish its provenance and condition, samples of black and brown rostrum wood were examined using sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS of pyrolytic volatiles yielded only guaiacyl derivatives, indicating construction from pinewood. A derivatized extract of black wood yielded forms of abietic acid and sandaracopimaric acid consistent with pine pitch waterproofing. Numerical fits to the sulfur K-edge XAS spectra showed that about 65% of the endogenous sulfur consisted of thiols and disulfides. Elemental sulfur was…

Sildenafil protects epithelial cell through the inhibition of xanthine oxidase and the impairment of ROS production

2009

Recent reports suggest that xanthine oxidase (XO), a modified form of the native xanthine dehydrogenase enzyme, plays an important role in various forms of ischemic and vascular injuries, inflammatory diseases, and chronic heart failure. The XO inhibitors allopurinol and its oxidation product oxypurinol held considerable promises in the treatment of these conditions both in experimental animals and in human clinical trials. More recently, an endothelium-based protective effect of sildenafil, a well-known type-5 phosphodiesterase inhibitor, has been reported in preconditioning prior to ischemia/reperfusion in healthy human subjects. Based on the structural similarities between allopurinol an…
