Influence of parametric four-wave mixing effects on stimulated Raman scattering in bimodal optical fibers.

We analyze stimulated Raman scattering in normally dispersive bimodal fibers under single-frequency pumping conditions. Experiments show that whenever the interacting nonlinear waves propagate in the LP(01) and LP(11) modes, a parametric four-wave mixing enters unavoidably into play in the wave-coupling behavior, which causes qualitatively different phenomena compared with the ordinary process of Raman scattering, such as the parametric suppression of the first-order Raman Stokes radiation.

Influence of Drawing Conditions on the Properties and Radiation Sensitivities of Pure-Silica-Core Optical Fibers

International audience; The structure and radiation sensitivities of three different pure-silica-core fluorine-doped-cladding optical fibers, made from the same original preform, were investigated by several experimental techniques. The fibers were obtained by changing the drawing speed and tension in the typical ranges of values used for the radiation-tolerant waveguides. The Raman spectroscopy revealed no significant difference among the fibers before irradiation. From Monomer to Bulk: Appearance of the Structural Motif of Solid Iodine in Small Clusters

Formation of iodine clusters in a solid krypton matrix was studied using resonance Raman spectroscopy with a 1 cm(-1) resolution. The clusters were produced by annealing of the solid and recognized by appearance of additional spectral transitions. Two distinct regions, red-shifted from the fundamental vibrational wavenumber of the isolated I(2) at 211 cm(-1), were observed in the signal. The intermediate region spans the range 196-208 cm(-1), and the ultimate region consists of two peaks at 181 and 190 cm(-1) nearly identical to crystalline I(2). The combination of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with charge coupled device (CCD) array-detected Raman spectroscopy for the in situ investigation of phase transition is illustrated using ammonium nitrate as an example. This method aids unambiguous characterization of different phases by providing a simultaneous probe of thermodynamic and vibrational data. Low-temperature polymorphism in tungsten trioxide powders and its dependence on mechanical treatments

The polymorphism of WO3 powder samples, resulting from mild mechanical treatments and from temperature changes between 30 K and room temperature, has been investigated by using Raman spectroscopy and X-ray di⁄raction. A transition from the monoclinic (I) c-phase to the triclinic d-phase after moderate mechanical treatments has been observed for untreated powder, just what happens when the same samples are rapidly cooled to low-temperature. Evidences of the low temperature monoclinic (II) polar e-phase have been found at room temperature in samples after a stronger milling treatment. Excitonic effects in two-LO-phonon resonant Raman scattering.

Abstract The role of electron-hole correlation in resonant Raman scattering by two LO-phonons is analyzed. A theoretical model including excitons belonging to the discrete and continuous spectra as virtual intermediate states in the Raman process and valid for incident energies below and above the gap is developed. For the exciton-phonon coupling the Frohlich Hamiltonian is considered. The most important contribution to the Raman scattering efficiency corresponds to the continuous→discrete→discrete exciton transition, followed by the discrete→discrete→discrete and the continuous→continuous→discrete ones. Time-Resolved Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering of Graphene: Dephasing Dynamics of Optical Phonon.

We report dynamics of the G-mode in graphene probed with time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering measurements. By applying BOXCARS excitation geometry with three different excitation wavelengths, various nonlinear processes can be selectively detected due to energy and momentum conservation and temporal sequence of the pulses. The Raman signal due to resonant coherent excitation of the G-mode shows exponential decay with lifetime of ∼325 ± 50 fs. This decay time is shorter than expected based on the line width of the G-mode in the Raman spectrum. Photoelectrochemical Evidence of Cu2O/TiO2 Nanotubes Hetero-Junctions formation and their Physicochemical Characterization

Cu2O/TiO2 nanotubes heterojunctions were fabricated by electrochemical deposition of cuprous oxide on TiO2 nanotubes arrays grown by anodizing. X-ray diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy analysis allows for identification of Cu2O, whose morphological features were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy as a function of the charge circulated during the electrodeposition step. Excitonic model for second-order resonant Raman scattering.

A theoretical model for second-order resonant Raman scattering is presented. The effect of Coulomb interaction between electrons and holes is fully taken into account in the framework of the effective-mass approximation. By introducing discrete and continuous excitonic intermediate states in the Raman process, an explicit expression for the Raman scattering efficiency is given for long-range Fr\"ohlich electron-phonon interaction. The model developed can be used to evaluate Raman profiles around the resonant region. Electronic and acoustic-phonon inter-Landau-level Raman scattering in GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs multiple quantum wells

We present an experimental study of inter-Landau-level excitations in undoped GaAs/${\mathrm{Al}}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$As multiple quantum wells in high magnetic fields by means of Raman scattering. The experiments were performed in Faraday backscattering geometry with the field along the growth axis, using circularly polarized light for resonant excitation of low-index magneto-optical transitions between Landau levels.
