Psychometric properties of the Situational Inventory of Body-Image Dysphoria-Short form in a Spanish sample
2006
The primary objective of this study was to translate and validate Situational Inventory of Body-Image Dysphoria-Short form (SIBID-S) in a Spanish population. The scale consists of 20 items to assess the frequency of dysphoric body-image emotions in certain situational contexts, using a five-point rating scale. The questionnaire was administered to 214 women between the ages of 14 and 29 years, from primary and secondary schools and a university. Principal components analysis indicated a one-factor structure for the entire sample and both younger (18) and older (or=18) participants. Internal consistency was high (0.94), and the test-retest reliability over 1 month ranged between 0.89 and 0.9…
Assessment of students' situation-specific classroom engagement by an InSitu Instrument
2016
The present study aims to expand the current understanding of engagement by examining variations in students' situation-specific engagement in lower secondary school. In addition, the validity and reliability of a new situation-specific InSitu Instrument were examined. The sample consisted of 1809 Finnish students attending Grade 7. The students filled in mobile ratings on their lesson-specific engagement after lessons. Furthermore, they answered questionnaires concerning their overall engagement, achievement beliefs, and task values in math and literacy. The results showed substantial variation within and between students in situational engagement. A five-factor structure was identified fo…
A heuristic method for estimating attribute importance by measuring choice time in a ranking task
2012
The evaluation of a product or service in terms of its attributes has been broadly studied in marketing, management and decision sciences. However, methods for finding important attributes have theoretical and practical limitations. The former are related to the selection of the most appropriate model; the latter are due to large number of variables that affect the specific experimental context. This study aims to present a new methodology that captures attribute preferences from a respondent and in particular, by using the choice time in a ranking task, it allows to indirectly obtain the importance weights for several tested attributes through a simple, fast and inexpensive procedure. Determination of octane numbers of gasoline compounds from their chemical structure by 13C NMR spectroscopy and neural networks
2001
Abstract A new theoretical model has been developed which explains the association between the molecular structure and the knock resistance of individual gasoline compounds convincingly. The constitutions of more than 300 individual gasoline components were correlated with their knock rating (Blending Research Octane Number, BRON) simultaneously. 13C NMR spectra of all compounds were binned in 28 chemical shift regions of different size. The number of individual carbon signals of the nearly 2500 carbons was counted in each shift region and was combined with the information about the presence or absence of the structure groups Oxygen, Rings, Aromatics, aliphatic Chains and oLefins (ORACL). T…
The Development of the Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) Method to Evaluate Teachers’ Social Interaction Skills
2012
The Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) method was developed to measure social interaction skills of teacher study groups. The participants were 70 teachers from three schools. The inter-rater agreement, Cohen’s kappa, varied between 0.57- 1.00. The discriminant validity was supported by a cluster analysis differentiating between the skilful and less skilful teachers. The results of the supplementary instrument were equivalent to the cluster analysis maintaining criterion oriented validity of the method developed. The DCI appeared to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring teachers’ social interaction skills. Peer reviewed
A framework for defining a sustainability rating system for railway track-beds
2017
Railways perform a significant role in the transportation system and they have relevant environmental, economic and social impacts. They are currently engineered optimizing every singular aspect rather than considering a broader system for improving the sustainability of the overall infrastructure. Thus, it is necessary to promote an effort to define a global sustainability framework for conceiving the design, construction and management of railway infrastructure. The Sustainable Rating System (SRS) proposed in this paper is a tool under development that evaluates different alternatives of railway track-bed structure. Inspired by similar efforts in the field of road engineering such as Gree…

Integrated treatment of first episode psychosis with online training (e-learning): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
2014
Background: The integrated treatment of first episode psychosis has been shown to improve functionality and negative symptoms in previous studies. In this paper, we describe a study of integrated treatment (individual psychoeducation complementary to pharmacotherapy) versus treatment as usual, comparing results at baseline with those at 6-month re-assessment (at the end of the study) for these patients, and online training of professionals to provide this complementary treatment, with the following objectives: 1) to compare the efficacy of individual psychoeducation as add-on treatment versus treatment as usual in improving psychotic and mood symptoms; 2) to compare adherence to medication,…
Complex Rating Curves for Sharp Crested Orifices and Rectangular or Triangular Weirs under Unsteady Flow Conditions
2021
The importance of discharge measurements is fully acknowledged in many research fields, mostly in hydrology. Numerous measurement devices and various overflow structures have been proposed for discharge measurements; however, their use is based on calibrated simple stage discharge relationships that may cause significant errors when unsteady flow conditions occur. This issue is quite common because of rainfall and runoff temporal variability that inhibits the achievement of the steady state. Although this issue has already been experimentally investigated, it seems that a physically based line of approach has not been attempted before. In this paper, unsteady stage discharge relationships o…
The effect of climate on Burgundy vintage quality rankings.
2019
Aim: Based on consensus rankings from prominent rating authorities, we examined the importance of a suite of climatic variables, organized by winegrape phenological stage, in distinguishing between high- and low-ranked vintages in Burgundy. Methods and Results: Vintage ratings of Burgundy wines acquired from 12 sources were evaluated to develop consensus rankings for red and white wines from 1961–2015. Climate variables (air temperature, precipitation, degree-day accumulations, etc.) were organized by mean phenological stage and compared between good and poor vintages using Mann-Whitney U tests and multivariate stepwise discriminant function analysis. High temperatures, particularly during t…
