The role and working conditions of Movement Science students employed in sport and recreational facilities: An Italian multicenter study

2015

BACKGROUND: In Italy, students from Movement Science (MS) Degree Courses often work in sport and recreational facilities before graduation. OBJECTIVE: The employment conditions of Movement Science students working in sport/recreational facilities were investigated, and the management and structural features of the facilities were evaluated, including safety policies. Regional differences were also considered. METHODS: Questionnaires were administered to undergraduate and graduate students (N= 4,217) in 17 Universities. Students' perceptions of the quality of the facilities where they had been employed was evaluated using multivariate analysis. A latent class model with covariates was used t…

Application of geomarketing to coastal tourism areas

2019

Geomarketing allows geographic units to be defined with a certain degree of homogeneity in terms of tourist preferences, behaviours, needs, expectations, buying and consumption patterns, and analogous attitudes. The result is a “territorial segmentation” of the demand in accordance with the geographic characteristics of tourism areas. The objective of this work is to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of applying geomarketing to the territorial segmentation of demand in coastal tourism areas. An empirical analysis of hotels specialising in family tourism in tourist accommodation establishments in Costa Adeje (Spain) is presented. The main conclusion is that the tourist accommodation varia…

Rainfall statistics changes in Sicily

2013

Abstract. Changes in rainfall characteristics are one of the most relevant signs of current climate alterations. Many studies have demonstrated an increase in rainfall intensity and a reduction of frequency in several areas of the world, including Mediterranean areas. Rainfall characteristics may be crucial for vegetation patterns formation and evolution in Mediterranean ecosystems, with important implications, for example, in vegetation water stress or coexistence and competition dynamics. At the same time, characteristics of extreme rainfall events are fundamental for the estimation of flood peaks and quantiles which can be used in many hydrological applications, such as design of the mos…

Sea surface temperature and torrential rains in the Valencia region: modelling the role of recharge areas

2015

Abstract. Heavy rain events are frequently recorded in the Western Mediterranean causing economic losses and even human casualties. The Western Mediterranean is a deep and almost closed sea surrounded by high mountain ranges and with little exchange of water with the Atlantic ocean. A main factor in the development of torrential rains is ocean-atmosphere exchanges of heat and moisture that can potentially destabilize air masses travelling over the sea. The study of air mass trajectories previous to the rain event permits the identification of sea areas that could probably contribute to the development or intensification of rainfall. From a previous Mediterranean sea surface temperature clim…

Zooplankton biodiversity and community structure vary along spatiotemporal environmental gradients in restored peridunal ponds

2015

<p>Zooplankton assemblages in neighboring ponds can show important spatial and temporal heterogeneity. Disentangling the influence of regional versus local factors, and of deterministic versus stochastic processes has been recently highlighted in the context of the metacommunity theory. In this study, we determined patterns of temporal and spatial variation in zooplankton diversity along one hydrological year in restored ponds of different hydroperiod and age. The following hypotheses regarding the assembling of species over time were tested: i) dispersal is not limited in our study system due to its small area and high exposure to dispersal vectors; ii) community dissimilarity among …

Application of a model for the evaluation of the “Visitor Satisfaction” in a nature reserve of South Italy

2017

The protected natural area represents an important resource because from it sustainable and long-lasting social and economic development processes can start. In fact, the conservation of biodiversity can help create economic values by using natural capital which, if properly valorised, can help the momentum of local sustainable development and create diffuse welfare in terms of employment and income. To such a purpose, the evaluation both of the demand by those who enjoy the services of a protected area and of the level of satisfaction that visitors draw from their experience becomes a priority. The present study aims at investigating the behaviour and the preferences of the visitors to a p…

Multi-rogue waves solutions to the focusing NLS equation and the KP-I equation

2011

Abstract. We construct a multi-parametric family of quasi-rational solutions to the focusing NLS equation, presenting a profile of multiple rogue waves. These solutions have also been used by us to construct a large family of smooth, real localized rational solutions of the KP-I equation quite different from the multi-lumps solutions first constructed in Bordag et al. (1977). The physical relevance of both equations is very large. From the point of view of geosciences, the focusing NLS equation is relevant to the description of surface waves in deep water, and the KP-I equation occurs in the description of capillary gravitational waves on a liquid surface, but also when one considers magneto…

Plagiarists by chance or by choice? Literature and film tell plagiarism

2019

The notion of plagiarism is so controversial and richly stratified that it fascinates scholars from many different disciplines. For the boundary between plagiarism and similar notions is rather hard to be established. Originality is threatened from any direction: consider imitation, copy, theft. Many forgers are around: some start from afar, some others simply seize the opportunity. Then fatally, the threshold between fiction and reality is trespassed: novels’ plots are about plagiarism, and also cinema easily takes that obsession over. There are plenty of stories that concern a literary theft. This set is so large that it justifies a more general question: how plagiarism can be told? This …
