Oralidad en las bitácoras de viaje 2.0
2014
A local level set method for liver segmentation in functional MR imaging
2011
Functional Magnetic Resonance (fMR) is a medical image technique in which a contrast is injected in the vascular system so that blood diffusion along it can be observed as variations of the signal intensity. The uptake variations of the contrast agent are used in early detection of tumorous tissue. For the diagnostic to be accurate, successive volumes must be correctly registered. For binary registration prior segmentation of the 3D fMR data is required. Here we present a local 3D level-set segmentation method which preserves details and edges, along with its multi-scale version which has the advantage of a great acceleration with respect to the single-scale version. Results of liver segmen…
Efficacy of screen recording in the other-revision of translations: episodic memory and event models
2014
In a 2011 study, Angelone compared the self-revision results of graduate German translation students. Participants documented their original translations using Integrated Problem and Decision Reporting (IPDR) logs (Gile 2004), think-aloud protocols and screen recordings. They then used this documentation to assist self-revision of their translations. Angelone found a significant improvement in error detection overall and in each of six discrete error categories when participants used screen recordings to assist their self-revision. We sought to partially replicate Angelone’s findings concerning the efficacy of screen recording in translation revision. Instead of focusing on self-revision, w…
Resisting Market Disorder and Ensuring Public Trust: Reimagining National Registers for Legal Interpreters in the United States and the European Union
2015
This article aims to describe the current state of affairs as regards national registers of legal interpreters and translators (LITs) in the United States and the European Union. After a brief overview of what translation and interpreting studies researchers and EU project participants recommend about their construction and utilization, a case will be made for the use of national registers as essential tools in two important struggles: professionalizing legal translation and interpreting and building public trust. Based on current models and recommendations by researchers, a proposal will be put forth for minimum characteristics of a national register of LITs. Rather than an afterthought, t…
Strategies for Progress: Looking for Firm Ground
2015
Over the last thirty years, there have been various and increasing efforts made to establish effective and consistent public service interpreting and translation. Good progress has been made but there are impasses. This paper attempts to stand back and look objectively at where, and more importantly how, we might proceed from here. This could be said to be a turning point for legal interpreting for two reasons. Firstly, enough time has elapsed for us to copy our scientific colleagues, who view the process of exploring and eliminating unsatisfactory approaches overtly, so that what does not work is recognised and discarded. Secondly, this process of exploration has enabled us to clarify and …
La interpretación judicial en España en un momento de cambio.
2015
The publication in the European Union of Directive 2010/64/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 on the right to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings has been a turning point in a great number of aspects related to court and police interpretation. The main objective of the Directive is to ensure quality legal interpretation throughout the process, as part of the right to defense and to a fair trial. Spain, as a Member State of the EU, has the obligation to transpose this European Directive into its domestic law. Therefore, this is a historic moment in which two main factors converge: the need to change the legislation to bring it in line with …

Cancer in Elderly Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Population-Based Study.
2016
IF 10.383; International audience; OBJECTIVES: Cancer may be a complication of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or its treatment. In elderly onset IBD patients the risk of malignancy is of particular concern. We studied this risk in a population-based cohort of elderly onset IBD patients.METHODS: In a French population-based cohort, we identified 844 patients aged >60 years at IBD diagnosis from 1988 to 2006, including 370 Crohn's disease (CD) and 474 ulcerative colitis (UC). We compared incidence of cancer among IBD patients with that observed in the French Network of population-based Cancer Registries (FRANCIM). Confidence interval (CI) was estimated assuming a Poisson-specific law for ra…
The impact of the Eurofever criteria and the new Infevers MEFV classification in real life: results from a large international FMF cohort
2022
INTRODUCTION: New Eurofever/PRINTO classification criteria (EPCC) for Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) and other recurrent fevers have been recently developed, together with the classification of the pathogenicity of MEFV variants. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the impact in real life of both the EPCC and INSAID pathogenicity classification of MEFV variants in the large international Eurofever FMF cohort. METHODS: Baseline demographic, genetic and clinical data of FMF patients included in the Eurofever registry were evaluated. The EPCC and the 2018 INSAID classification for MEFV variants were applied in all eligible FMF patients. RESULTS: Since November 2009, clinical information was available …
Performance of Finnish biobanks in nationwide pulmonary carcinoid tumour research
2019
Finnish hospital-integrated biobanks administer millions of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples collected within the clinical diagnostics. According to the Finnish Biobank Act, these samples can be coupled with patients’ clinical follow-up data and the data retrieved from national health registries. We collected a nationwide pulmonary carcinoid tumour series from Finnish biobanks to study prognostic factors as well as to explore how the number of tumours found in the Finnish biobanks corresponds to the number of tumours registered by the Finnish Cancer Registry (FCR). Finnish biobanks identified 88% of the tumours registered by the FCR and were able to deliver 63%. The main reas…
