Characterization of tachykinin receptors in the uterus of the oestrogen-primed rat

The aim of our study was to characterize the tachykinin receptor population in the oestrogen-primed rat uterus. For this purpose, we investigated the receptor type(s) responsible for tachykinin-induced contraction of longitudinally-arranged smooth muscle layer. Abstract Ammonium nitrate solid phase transition paths between phases IV, III and II were explained and predicted on the basis of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data by applying partial least-squares regression (PLS) and principal component analysis (PCA). The samples were clustered according to their different transition paths with the PLS and PCA models, and the transition paths were predicted with PLS component clusters. Multifractal electronic wave functions in disordered systems

Abstract To investigate the electronic states in disordered samples we diagonalize very large secular matrices corresponding to the Anderson Hamiltonian. The resulting probability density of single electronic eigenstates in 1-, 2-, and 3-dimensional samples is analysed by means of a box-counting procedure. By linear regression we obtain the Lipschitz-Holder exponents and the corresponding singularity spectrum, typical for a multifractal set in each case. By means of a Legendre transformation the mass exponents and the generalized dimensions are derived. Consequences for spectroscopic intensities and transport properties are discussed.

Monte Carlo calculation of dose rate distributions around the Walstam CDC.K-type137Cs sources

Basic dosimetric data for the Walstam CDC.K-type low dose rate 137Cs sources in water have been calculated using Monte Carlo techniques. These sources, CDC.K1 -K3 and CDC.K4, are widely used in a range of applicators and moulds for the treatment of intracavitary and superficial cancers. Our purpose is to improve existing data about these sources using the Monte Carlo simulation code GEANT3. Absolute dose rate distributions in water have been calculated around these sources and are presented as conventional 2D Cartesian look-up tables. In pattern recognition, the choice of features to be detected is a critical factor to determine the success or failure of a method; much research has gone into finding the best features for particular tasks [1]. When images are detected by digital cameras, they are usually acquired as rectangular arrays of pixels, so the initial features are pixel values. Some methods use those pixel values directly for processing, for instance in normal matched filtering [2], whereas other methods execute some degree of pre-processing, such as binarizing the pixel values [3].

Smartphone determination of fat in cured meat products

Abstract A method has been developed to determine the fat content in different cold meat products by image processing using the camera of a mobile phone. Salchichon , chorizo , salami and cured ham pictures were taken with a Meizu M2 Mini mobile phone camera under fixed lighting conditions of the light emitting diode flash of the mobile phone. A new indicator for higher education student performance

The debate on academic achievement is a heated issue that involves all the higher education contexts. This paper attempts to provide an indicator that can make the measurement of university student performance easier and that can be easily applied to different systems, making comparisons more fair. The Italian University System is used as a starting point to make several considerations on the current measures and to build up a new performance indicator. Then, a generalization for other marking systems is shown and finally a quantile regression is performed to investigate some determinants of the new performance indicator, also with respect to the current one.
