Transparency in transactive energy at distribution level
2017
A recent report from the German Energy Agency analyzes the possible introduction of the blockchain technology in energy transactions in power distribution. The issue deserves attention since the extensive digitalization of business models puts new challenges to utilities in the power sector. The German decision makers in the energy field claim that blockchain appears as a close perspective and, at the same time, the Gartner hypecycle puts this technology at the peak of inflated expectations in 2016. Diffuse perception however provides hints for further investigation on the topic. This paper provides insight into the problem of peer-to-peer energy exchange from a technical perspective, provi…
Effect of voltage deviations on power distribution losses in presence of DG technology
2015
Integration of distributed generation (DG) units in power distribution network has become increasingly attractive multi-faceted paradigm as economic and environmental factors drive new technologies to be more efficient and less polluting than their earlier counterparts. The installation of DGs impacts critically on the planning and operating characteristics of the distribution network. Type, location, number and capacity of DG are essential factors for studying the effect of DGs on the system behavior. In this paper the effect of DG on the power losses of a distribution network is investigated for different types of DG units. Also, the impact of DG on the voltage profile is demonstrated bef…
La pubblica amministrazione e l’etica delle istituzioni pubbliche: la questione dei codici di comportamento
2022
Public employees are bound to comply with specific duties and rules of conduct that broaden their sphere of esponsibility compared to that of ordinary citizens. The ethics of public institutions is crucial for the development and interpretation of the duties and behaviours established by the code of conduct. Accordingly, it is interesting to explore the possibility of enhancing the moral characteristics of the subjects called to perform a public function considering the Aretaic theory. In the Italian context this theory appears decidedly in line with both the constitutional provision that identifies law as a social practice and the ideal of the rule of law. A key element of the Aretaic theo…

Adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in early adolescents’ socioemotional functioning
2018
The present study examined adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in the socioemotional functioning of early adolescents. A total of 869 sixth-grade students and 668 mothers participated in the study. The students rated their temperament and socioemotional functioning and the mothers rated their own temperament. Latent profile analyses identified four temperament types among the adolescents (resilient, reserved, average, and mixed) and three types among the mothers (resilient, average, and mixed). The results showed that the adolescents with resilient or reserved temperaments reported significantly fewer conduct problems and emotional symptoms, less hyperactivity, and …
Varhaiskasvatushenkilöstön käsityksiä lasten tunteiden säätelytaitojen kehittymisestä – Käytäntöön integroitu koulutus ammatillisen kehittymisen tuke…
2021
Lapset tarvitsevat aikuisen tukea oppiakseen säätelemään tunteitaan. Jotta varhaiskasvatuksen ammattilainen voi tarjota lapsille monipuolista ja sensitiivistä tunteiden säätelyn tukea osana pedagogista toimintaa, häneltä odotetaan oman roolin tiedostamista lapsen tunteiden kanssasäätelijänä. Lasten tunteiden säätelytaitojen tukeminen pedagogisessa toiminnassa rakentuu kanssasäätelijän teoreettiselle tiedolle ja vaatii sen soveltamista käytännössä. Tässä tutkimuksessa on tarkasteltu, millaisia käsityksiä varhaiskasvatushenkilöstöllä on tunteiden kanssasäätelystä, ja kuinka käsitykset muuttuvat, kun heidän tietopohjaansa tunteiden kanssasäätelystä vahvistetaan työhön integroidun koulutuskokon…
The Modifying Mirror
2023
Abstract This chapter compares music listening with the infant’s experience of care. Several scholars have argued that music can be used for scaffolding one’s self-experience. Developmental psychologists, in turn, maintain a wide consensus over the claim that, in early interaction, the attuned caregiver supports and modifies the infant’s self-experience in various ways. The chapter brings these phenomena together, illustrating how the examination of the early self/other relation can teach us something important concerning the listener/music relation. The first section elaborates on the scaffolding function of music and clarifies two ambiguities haunting the debate. The second section reloca…

A call to experimentally study acute affect-regulation mechanisms specific to driven exercise in eating disorders.
2020
Driven exercise (i.e., feeling compelled to exercise to control one's weight or shape, to obtain other positive consequences of exercising, or to avoid other negative consequences of not exercising) is a common phenomenon in individuals with eating disorders (EDs), typically associated with negative clinical outcomes. Current theoretical models of driven exercise highlight the short-term affect-regulating outcome of acute driven exercise, which is implicated to maintain this symptom either by positive or negative reinforcement. However, few studies have actually investigated cognitive, affective, and psychobiological mechanisms related to acute driven exercise. In particular, experimental s…
A potential role for water in the modulation of oxygen-binding by tarantula hemocyanin
2003
Hemocyanin from the tarantula Eurypelma californicum is a large respiratory protein with an exceptional high cooperativity. In contrast to hemocyanins from other species, no physiological allosteric effectors other than protons have been identified so far for this 24-meric oligomer. Here we report for the first time the mediating effects of water activity on the oxygen binding properties of a hemocyanin. Oxygen binding curves were measured in presence of several concentrations of glycine and sucrose since both substances reduce water activity. A pronounced shift of the p(50) was observed in both cases but in different directions: adding sucrose shifts the p(50) towards lower values whereas …
