Prevention of intrauterine post-surgical adhesions in hysteroscopy. A systematic review

2016

Abstract Objective The purpose of the present review is to provide a survey of the various measures of preventing adhesions used in hysteroscopic surgery. Study Design A systematic computerized literature search was conducted to provide a survey of the various measures used in hysteroscopic surgery to prevent adhesions. Finally, 29 studies were included in the analysis, showing a wide variety of methods and agents advocated in international literature. They are explained in various sections, based on the IUA prevention approach adopted (surgical technique, early second-look hysteroscopy, barrier method, pharmacological therapy). Results The results of our review show that (i) use of surgica…

Predictors of live birth in women with a history of biochemical pregnancies after assisted reproduction treatment

2020

Abstract Objectives To ascertain whether women with a history of biochemical pregnancies (BPs) in in-vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment cycles have decreased chances of live birth (LB); and (2) to build a predictive model for LB in this particular population of infertile women. Methods In order to achieve the first objective, data from 1536 women that had a LB using autologous fresh or frozen embryos, or dropped out of further IVF/ICSI treatments after completing one to three unsuccessful treatment cycles were retrospectively analyzed. A subpopulation of 90 women that experienced one or more BPs in our assisted reproduction unit were selected to buil…

The Use of NFP When Pregnancy Is Contraindicated?

2020

The Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has declared the moral liceity of hysterectomy when certain medical criteria are met but does not exclude other options, “for example, recourse to infertile periods or total abstinence.” Consequently, there may be couples who prefer to use natural family planning (NFP) methods. We shall refer to these in this article. The efficacy of NFP methods is determined by knowing the day of ovulation. To that end, three parameters are used: the presence and consistency of cervical mucus, measurement of the basal body temperature, and the determination of particular hormones in urine. Of the NFP methods used, the so-called sympto-thermal method se…

Effect of a diet intervention during pregnancy on dietary behavior in the randomized controlled Norwegian Fit for Delivery study.

2016

A mother’s diet during pregnancy has the potential to influence both her own and her child’s short- and long-term health. This paper reports the effects of a randomized controlled diet intervention during pregnancy on dietary behavior post-intervention as reported in late pregnancy. The diet intervention was part of a lifestyle intervention targeting both diet and physical activity behaviors among nulliparous women participating in the randomized controlled Norwegian Fit for Delivery study (NFFD). Eligible women were enrolled in early pregnancy from eight healthcare clinics in southern Norway between 2009 and 2013. The diet intervention was based on 10 dietary recommendations that were conv…

Widespread Pain Hypersensitivity and Lumbopelvic Impairments in Women Diagnosed with Endometriosis.

2021

Abstract Objective To explore hypersensitivity to pain and musculoskeletal impairments in the lumbopelvic area in women with and without endometriosis. Methods This cross-sectional study included 66 women (41 women with endometriosis and 25 healthy women). Pain and related catastrophizing thoughts were assessed through a numeric rating scale, pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), the slump test, and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale. Lumbopelvic muscles were evaluated through ultrasound imaging, flexor/extensor resistance tests, and the lumbopelvic stability test. Results Women with endometriosis showed increased self-reported intensity of current pelvic pain (CuPP), reduced local PPTs (42.8–64.7% …

May Dyspnea Sensation Influence the Sexual Function in Men With Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome? A Prospective Control Study

2019

Abstract Introduction Dyspnea sensation is frequently present in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) patients; however, its possible influence on sexual function and body image has not been well analyzed. Aims To evaluate sexual function, the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD), and body image during sexual activity and its relationship with dyspnea in men with OSA. Methods 129 men were included in the prospective study, with 61 diagnosed with OSA (cases) and 68 age- and BMI-matched healthy control subjects. Patients were assessed for the severity of heart failure by the New York Heart Association scale and dyspnea by the Visual Analogue Scale. OSA was confirmed by in-laboratory polyso…

Evaluation of implementing a community-based exercise intervention during pregnancy

2017

Abstract Objective to evaluate the implementation of a community-based exercise intervention (the Norwegian Fit for Delivery study) during pregnancy. Design descriptive, explorative. Setting healthcare clinics in southern Norway, including urban and rural settings. Participants healthy, nulliparous women with singleton pregnancy of ≤20 gestational weeks, age ≥18 years and body mass index ≥19kg/m 2 . Methods women were randomised to either twice-weekly supervised exercise sessions combined with nutritional counselling ( n =303) or standard prenatal care ( n =303). The exercise program was based on ACOG guidelines, with the same low-impact workout for all participants, including 60minutes of …

Menopause symptom management in women with dyslipidemias: An EMAS clinical guide.

2020

Abstract Introduction Dyslipidemias are common and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. The menopause transition is associated with an atherogenic lipid profile, with an increase in the concentrations of total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), apolipoprotein B (apoB) and potentially lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)], and a decrease in the concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Aim The aim of this clinical guide is to provide an evidence-based approach to management of menopausal symptoms and dyslipidemia in postmenopausal women. The guide evaluates the effects on the lipid profile both of menopausal hormone therapy an…
