Orientations and Capabilities of Born Global Firms from Emerging Markets

2018

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of entrepreneurial orientation and networking capabilities of born global firms in an emerging market on marketing strategy and foreign market performance. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling was used to analyze data from 1,001 internationalized firms in an emerging market and to test seven hypotheses regarding the development of marketing strategy and foreign market performance. Findings Marketing strategy was found to mediate the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and networking capability and foreign market performance, while foreign market performance is affected by entrepreneurial orientation…

Weathering of Fe-bearing minerals under Martian conditions, investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy

2004

Abstract The surface of Mars is covered by weathered material. Mars' rusty red colour in particular is commonly ascribed to ferric iron-bearing minerals. The planet's surface is generally iron rich. Mossbauer spectroscopy is a powerful tool for quantitative mineralogical analysis of Fe-bearing minerals. Consequently, the miniaturized Mossbauer spectrometer MIMOS II is part of the payload of NASA's twin Mars Exploration Rovers “Spirit” and “Opportunity”, and ESA's ill-fated Mars Express lander “Beagle 2”. Both Mars Exploration Rovers are currently conducting successful surface operations on Mars. In this paper, we give a brief insight into mission operations with respect to the reconstructio…

An integrated environmental indicator for urban transportation systems: description and application

2015

A simplified version of the ecological footprint method is proposed for assessing the environmental performances of urban transportation systems. The method, starting from the knowledge of the composition of the running vehicular fleet, is here applied to a southern Italian province. It represents a synthetic indicator of the environmental pressure exerted by the system also matching the pollutant emissions with the carrying capacity of the site. Particularly, the forested area needed to absorb the CO2 emissions of the system is compared with the total forested area of the province. The results of the case-study indicates the yearly maximum distance that each vehicle of the fleet can cover …

Bioengineering Materials for Environment Protection in a Changing Climate

2019

Climate change is one of the biggest problems of our times and passing the time climate extremes tend to increase both in magnitude and in frequency. Because the severity of the extreme climate events has increased, the interaction of these events with vulnerable human and natural systems has more frequently lead to disasters. Recent climate models projections have also shown a further substantial warming in temperature extremes by the end of the 21st century. The prevision models’ results also indicate that the global warming and the increase in frequency of temperature extremes could be strictly related to the anthropogenic forcing. The present special issue collects contributions represe…

The Hydrogen‐Storage Challenge: Nanoparticles for Metal‐Catalyzed Ammonia Borane Dehydrogenation

2021

International audience; Dihydrogen is one of the sustainable energy vectors envisioned for the future. However, the rapidly reversible and secure storage of large quantities of hydrogen is still a technological and scientific challenge. In this context, this review proposes a recent state-of-the-art on H 2 production capacities from the dehydrogenation reaction of ammonia borane (and selected related amine-boranes) as a safer solid-source of H 2 by hydrolysis (or solvolysis), according to the different developed nanoparticle-based catalysts. The review groups the results according to the transition metals constituting the catalyst according a special view to current cost/availability consid…

Magnéli oxides as promising n-type thermoelectrics

2014

The discovery of a large thermopower in cobalt oxides in 1997 lead to a surge of interest in oxides for thermoelectric application. Whereas conversion efficiencies of p-type oxides can compete with non-oxide materials, n-type oxides show significantly lower thermoelectric performances. In this context so-called Magneli oxides have recently gained attention as promising n-type thermoelectrics. A combination of crystallographic shear and intrinsic disorder lead to relatively low thermal conductivities and metallic-like electrical conductivities in Magneli oxides. Current peak-zT values of 0.3 around 1100 K for titanium and tungsten Magneli oxides are encouraging for future research. Here, we …

The Multiple Multidimensional Knapsack with Family-Split Penalties

2021

Abstract The Multiple Multidimensional Knapsack Problem with Family-Split Penalties (MMdKFSP) is introduced as a new variant of both the more classical Multi-Knapsack and Multidimensional Knapsack Problems. It reckons with items categorized into families and where if an individual item is selected to maximize the profit, all the items of the same family must be selected as well. Items belonging to the same family can be assigned to different knapsacks; however, in this case, split penalties are incurred. This problem arises in resource management of distributed computing contexts and Service Oriented Architecture environments. An exact algorithm based on the exploitation of a specific combi…

Un procedimiento de fuerte reducción de las dimensiones del RCPS/π

2009

Recently, in the field of project scheduling problems the concept of partially renewable resources has been introduced. Theoretically, it is a generalization of both renewable and non-renewable resources. From an applied point of view, partially renewable resources allow us to model a large variety of situations that do not fit into classical models, but can be found in real problems in timetabling and labour scheduling. When modelling real problems, the problem of project scheduling with partially renewable resources, as many other combinatorial problems, gets such large dimensions that it is quite difficult to apply solution procedures. In this paper, we describe some powerful preprocessi…

A simulation/optimization model for selecting infrastructure alternatives in complex water resource systems

2010

The paper introduces a simulation/optimization procedure for the assessment and the selection of infrastructure alternatives in a complex water resources system, i.e. in a multisource (reservoirs) multipurpose bulk water supply scheme. An infrastucture alternative is here a vector X of n decision variables describing the candidate expansions/new plants/water transfers etc. Each parameter may take on a discrete number of values, with its own investment cost attached. The procedure uses genetic algorithms for the search of the optimal vector X through operators mimicking the mechanisms of natural selection. For each X, the value of the objective function (O.F.) is assessed via a simulation mo…
