The spanish banks in face of the corporate social responsibility Standards: previous analysis of the financial crisis

2013

Transparency of information in the field of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is common to various standards. In recent years there has been a proliferation of standards and models for the formalization of CSR strategies. The objective is to assess the degree of implementation of standards of normalization. The analysis was conducted with data from the year 2008, coinciding with the first signs of the financial crisis, serving as a reference point to analyze the effect of the crisis. The field work was conducted using a survey answered by 57 Spanish credit institutions. We found a low degree of implementation of standards. The GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and the ISO 14001 stood ou…

The cultural mission of universities

2017

Over the last two decades, there has been a wide debate about the so‑called third mission of the University. Two discourses have occupied the proscenium: the transfer and innovation of knowledge and corporate social responsibility. In this article we postulate that both these ideas respond to approaches that do not fully take the history and status of universities as a public service into account. In contrast, we argue that the third mission, both in terms of history and in terms of the normative and pragmatic statutes, instead corresponds to culture.

2012

A Concentric CSR Roadmap Model for Host Community Relations in the Global South

2014

The purpose of this article is to find new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approaches for corporate-community relationships in the global South and hence to achieve some distance from the Northern ethos. The article is based on a case study from the Brazilian pulp and paper sector. Veracel Celulose, a multinational corporation, is a joint venture between the Brazilian Fibria Celulose (formerly Aracruz Celulose) and the Swedish-Finnish Stora Enso. First, Veracel’s production impacts on the Indigenous community, the Pataxó Indians, are examined. Second, Veracel’s CSR policy and its subsequent impact are brought under closer scrutiny by juxtaposing corporate words with corporate actions.…

Intellectual evolution of strategic management and its relationship with ethics and social responsibility

2006

The main purpose here is to present an overview of the historical development of strategic management, through a critical review of the most relevant theoretical proposals, and to consider its links to ethics and corporate social responsibilities. From the very beginning of strategic management thought attempts have been made to fuse ethical aspects such as values of senior management or social values or social expectations to strategic management. More recently the stakeholder view of the firm has permitted the introduction of ethical theories into strategic management, and the resources-based view of the firm has lead to the consideration of competences, including moral virtues. Here it i…

Explaining the relationship between socially responsible products and the operations of the firm: The case of equine assisted therapy

2018

Abstract Although there is a growing interest in social responsibility in research as well as in practice, the majority of studies on corporate social responsibility do not explicitly investigate operations management issues when adopting socially responsible practices under the “people” pillar of sustainability. This paper, dealing with the theme of social responsibility in operations management, aims at clarifying the complex relationship between socially responsible product/service and the operations of the company. The empirical context of the study is the sport industry, where the attention to social issues is well established. We used a mixed theoretical-empirical approach to develop …
