Influence of the metaphysis positioning in a new reverse shoulder prosthesis

2016

Aim of this work is to investigate the behaviour of a new reverse shoulder prosthesis, characterized by a humeral metaphysis with a variable offset, designed to increase the range of movements and to reduce the impingement. In particular, by means of virtual prototypes of the prosthesis, different offset values of the humeral metaphysis have been analysed in order to find the best positioning able to maximize the range of movements of the shoulder joint. The abduction force of the deltoid, at different offset values, has been also estimated. The study has been organized as follows. In the first step, the point clouds of the surfaces of the different components of the prosthesis have been ac…

The association between muscle dysmorphia and eating disorder symptomatology: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2019

Background and aimsResearch shows inconsistent findings about the link between muscle dysmorphia (MD) and eating disorder (ED) symptomatology. The aim of this study is to synthesize the scientific evidence available on this topic, the researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsThe literature search enabled us to identify 39 published articles, which provided 36 independent estimations of the correlation between the two variables.ResultsOur analysis found a positive association between MD and ED symptoms (r+ = .36; 95% CI = 0.30, 0.41). Moderator analyses showed that the type of sample and the tools for assessing MD and ED were statistically associated with the MD–ED …

La nueva oportunidad de la hipoteca inversa

2021

The reverse mortgage is a credit or loan guaranteed by a mortgage that falls on the applicant?s habitual residence, granted at once, or through periodic benefits, to a person who must be over a certain age or prove a degree of disability or dependency, and is not due until the time of death. In view of the doubts that the future of the public pension is raising and the concentration of savings in Spanish property, the reverse mortgage is once again being put on the table as a viable alternative to complement a public pension with little revaluation, in view of the increase in life expectancy and expenses after retirement.

Effect of short-chain alcohols on surfactant-mediated reversed-phase liquid chromatographic systems.

2010

The behaviour of β-blockers in a reversed-phase liquid chromatographic (RPLC) column with mobile phases containing a short-chain alcohol (methanol, ethanol or 1-propanol), with and without the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), was explored. Two surfactant-mediated RPLC modes were studied, where the mobile phases contained either micelles or only surfactant monomers at high concentration. Acetonitrile was also considered for comparison purposes. A correlation was found between the effects of the organic solvent on micelle formation (monitored by the drop weight procedure) and on the nature of the chromatographic system (as revealed by the retention, elution strength and peak shape of…

Performance of different C18 columns in reversed-phase liquid chromatography with hydro-organic and micellar-organic mobile phases

2014

Column selection in reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) can become a challenge if the target compounds interact with the silica-based packing. One of such interactions is the attraction of cationic solutes to the free silanols in silica-based columns, which is a slow sorption-desorption interaction process that gives rise to tailed and broad peaks. The effect of silanols is minimised by the addition of a competing agent in the mobile phase, such as the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). In micellar-organic RPLC, the adsorption of an approximately fixed amount of SDS monomers gives rise to a stable modified stationary phase, with properties remarkably different from th…

Reversed phase liquid chromatography for the enantioseparation of local anaesthetics in polysaccharide-based stationary phases. Application to biodeg…

2020

[EN] A comprehensive study on the chiral separation of bupivacaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine and propanocaine with eight commercial polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) in reversed phase conditions compatible with MS detection is performed. Methanol and acetonitrile are used as organic modifiers. Retention and resolution values obtained for each compound in the different CSPs and mobile phases are compared. The polysaccharide-based CSPs tested present different enantioselectivity towards the analytes. From the results, the experimental conditions for determining the enantiomers of bupivacaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine and propanocaine in saline aqueous samples using MS detecti…

Novel solutions for closed-loop Reverse Electrodialysis: thermodynamic characterisation and perspective analysis

2019

Abstract Closed-loop Reverse Electrodialysis is a novel technology to directly convert low-grade heat into electricity. It consists of a reverse electrodialysis (RED) unit where electricity is produced exploiting the salinity gradient between two salt-water solutions, coupled with a regeneration unit where waste-heat is used to treat the solutions exiting from the RED unit and restore their initial composition. One of the most important advantages of closed-loop systems compared to the open systems is the possibility to select ad-hoc salt solutions to achieve high efficiencies. Therefore, the properties of the salt solutions are essential to assess the performance of the energy generation a…

Performance of amines as silanol suppressors in reversed-phase liquid chromatography

2016

In reversed-phase liquid chromatography, cationic basic compounds yield broad and asymmetrical peaks, as a result of their ionic interaction with the anionic free silanol groups present in the silica-based stationary phases (commonly derivatised with C18 groups). A simple way to improve the peak shape is the addition to the hydro-organic mobile phase of a reagent (usually called additive) with cationic character. This associates with the stationary phase to prevent the access of analytes to the free silanol groups. Cationic additives may interact electrostatically with the anionic silanols. The hydrophobic region of the additive may also associate with the alkyl chains bound to the stationa…

Correlation between different degree and duration of metabolic control and thyroid hormone levels in type 1 and type 2 diabetics.

1983

Thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), reverse T3 (rT3) and HbA1c were assayed in 21 insulin-dependent (type 1) diabetics and in 45 non-insulin-dependent (type 2) diabetics with normal thyroid function and different levels of control, and were compared to values found in apparently healthy controls. rT3 and rT3/T3 ratio were significantly increased both in type 1 and type 2 diabetics. T3 and T4 were significantly lower in type 2 diabetics than in the controls. Significant positive correlations of HbA1c to rT3 (r = 0.63) and to rT3/T3 ratio (r = 0.53) were found in type 1, and in type 2 diabetics (HbA1c, rT3-r = 0.50), (HbA1c, rT3/T3-r = 0.37). There was no correlation between glycemia (BG),…
