An updated overview of the marine alien and cryptogenic species from the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area (Italy)

An updated overview of the marine alien and cryptogenic species recorded in the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area (Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy), based on relevant publications, grey literature and unpublished data, is presented and discussed. In the northern hemisphere, voles and lemmings tend to show population cycles with regular fluctuations in numbers. Understanding and predicting large-scale ecological responses to global environmental change requires comparative studies across geographic scales with coordinated efforts and standardized methodologies. We designed, applied and assessed standardized protocols to measure tundra herbivory at three spatial scales: plot, site (habitat), and study area (landscape).
