This paper presents an Assistive social robots architecture designed for social interaction with humans, mediated by a humanoid robot. The architecture has been designed for being used by people with severe paralysis and the architecture has been tested by a user affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in a locked-in state. Movements of robots in a swarm can be mapped to sounds, highlighting the group behavior through the coordinated and simultaneous variations of musical parameters across time. The vice versa is also possible: sound parameters can be mapped to robotic motion parameters, giving instructions through sound. Robotic versus laparoscopic radical hysterectomy in early cervical cancer: A case matched control study

Abstract Background This study aims at evaluating the feasibility, surgical outcome and oncological results observed after robotic radical hysterectomy (RH) compared to laparoscopy for patients with early stage cervical cancer (ECC) patients. Methods Between January 2010 and October 2016, 210 patients underwent RH for treatment of ECC: 70 underwent robotic approach (Cases), and 140 underwent laparoscopic approach (Controls). Results There was no statistically significant difference between the two approaches with regard to clinical patient characteristics and in terms of extent of RH and rate of pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy. We introduce a system that exploits a Pepper humanoid robot acting as a playfellow in a word-play game. The robot can play a portmanteau game by directly interacting with children, and it exploits a conversation engine, a portmanteau creation engine, and a definition engine. The humanoid can play the role of either an answerer or a generator of new words.

Word-play is as powerful learning and motivation tool often used by educators for teaching the ability of reading, which is a complex activity. In this paper, we introduce a system that exploits a Pepper humanoid robot acting as a playfellow in a word-play game based on portmanteau words. The robot shows the ability to play with children using a conversation engine, a portmanteau creation engine, and a definition engine. In this manner, Pepper can integrate itself within a group of kids, and it can support a teacher in her activities. The humanoid can be involved in a word-based round-game in which it can play the role of either answerer or generator of new words.
