BUSINESS CYCLE SYNCHRONIZATION BETWEEN ROMANIA AND THE EURO AREA. A FRESH LOOK IN VIEW OF THE RECENT CRISIS

This paper examines the degree of business cycles synchronization between Romania and the Euro area, by using Germany as a benchmark for the area economic cycle. The period of the study is 2000 - 2011, with a special emphasis on the recent economic and financial crisis. Using the Hodrick-Prescott filter, we find important, but decreasing correlations in times of crisis in the level of GDP. Furthermore, the analysis by GDP components reveals that private consumption remains the least correlated with the Euro area, while foreign trade is highly correlated and its synchronization even increased during the recent crisis.

Abstract The paper approaches the ‘ideology’ of Romanian post-communist journalism as identified in local news media organisations. We focus on the practical philosophy of journalism, emphasizing elements such as autonomy, truth, objectivity; and the relationship of journalists and news organisations with political actors. Special attention is given to the interplay between this practical philosophy and the political and economic constraints influencing news media organisations in Romania. Abstract The purpose of this study is to develop a framework to measure immigrant integration in emerging immigrant destinations. After several decades of intensive research, the definition and assessment of immigrants’ integration remains elusive. Increasingly more attempts have been made to foster scientific progress in the field in the las decades. Yet, immigrant integration in emerging destination countries remains particularly little studied despite several calls for more research on the topic.
