Cell Harvesting Methods Affect Cellular Integrity of Adherent Cells During Apoptosis Detection.
2018
Background/aim Annexin V and propidium iodide (PI) dual staining is commonly applied in bioscience as a method to detect apoptosis. However, excessive handling of adherent cells may interfere with the integrity of plasma membrane and hence impede the accuracy of this method. Here, we exploited PI uptake as an indicator of cell integrity and investigated how cell harvesting methods and solutions involved in common apoptosis detection techniques affected measurement results. Materials and methods Different cell harvesting techniques, staining with PI and flow cytometry were performed. Results Non-fixed scrapped cells revealed significantly higher fractions of PI-positive staining compared to …
The protease complex consisting of dipeptidyl peptidase IV and seprase plays a role in the migration and invasion of human endothelial cells in colla…
2006
Abstract Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP4/CD26) and seprase/fibroblast activation protein α are homologous type II transmembrane, homodimeric glycoproteins that exhibit unique prolyl peptidase activities. Human DPP4 is ubiquitously expressed in epithelial and endothelial cells and serves multiple functions in cleaving the penultimate positioned prolyl bonds at the NH2 terminus of a variety of physiologically important peptides in the circulation. Recent studies showed a linkage between DPP4 and down-regulation of certain chemokines and mitogenic growth factors, and degradation of denatured collagens (gelatin), suggesting a role of DPP4 in the cell invasive phenotype. Here, we found the existen…
Candida bloodstream infections in intensive care units: Analysis of the extended prevalence of infection in intensive care unit study
2011
Objectives: To provide a global, up-to-date picture of the prevalence, treatment, and outcomes of Candida bloodstream infections in intensive care unit patients and compare Candida with bacterial bloodstream infection. Design: A retrospective analysis of the Extended Prevalence of Infection in the ICU Study (EPIC II). Demographic, physiological, infection-related and therapeutic data were collected. Patients were grouped as having Candida, Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and combined Candida/bacterial bloodstream infection. Outcome data were assessed at intensive care unit and hospital discharge. Setting: EPIC II included 1265 intensive care units in 76 countries. Patients: Patients in partic…
Gas—liquid chromatographic analyses
1984
Abstract The gas chromatography (GC) of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR), chloroacetates (CH 2 ClCOOR), dichloroacetates (CHCl 2 COOR) and trichloroacetates (CCl 3 COOR), where the alcohol chain length (R) varied between 1 and 8, and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives, 176 compounds altogether, has been studied on SE-30 and OV-351 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The isomeric monochlorinated esters are eluted in direct order from the 1- chloro to the ω-chloro isomer, the separation of the isomers being complete on OV- 351. On SE-30, however, the peaks of the 6- and 7-chlorooctyl esters are partly overlapped. The separation of the mixtures of odd- and e…
Application of molecularly imprinted polymers in analytical chiral separations and analysis
2018
Over the last two decades the process of development and application of a new types of molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) sorbents in the field of analytical chemistry have been widely described in the literature. One of the new trends in analytical chemistry practice is the use of new types of MIP sorbents as specific sorption materials constituting the stationary phase in advanced separation techniques. The following review paper contains comprehensive information about the application of a specific and well defined MIP sorbents (with the data base in the paper about the reagents used in MIP preparation process) as stationary phases in separation techniques including high performance liqui…
Prognostic significance of central venous-to-arterial carbon dioxide difference during the first 24 hours of septic shock in patients with and withou…
2017
IF 6.238; International audience; Objective: To investigate the prognostic significance of central venous-to-arterial carbon dioxide difference (cv-art CO2 gap) during septic shock in patients with and without impaired cardiac function. Methods: We performed a prospective cohort study in 10 French intensive care units. Patients suffering from septic shock were assigned to the impaired cardiac function group (‘cardiac group’, n=123) if they had atrial fibrillation (AF) and/or left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) 0.9 kPa at 12 h had a higher risk of day 28 mortality (hazard ratio=3.18; P=0.0049). Among the 59 patients in the cardiac group with mean arterial pressure (MAP) ≥65 mm Hg, centr…
The epitaph of the Citharoeda Jucunda (AE 2007, 805: Segobriga). New edition and commentary
2015
New edition and philological commentary about an epitaph in verse of a young slave. The monument (s…
Fabvla Nvlla Fvit. Annotations to a carmen Latinvm epigraphicvm, probably found in Gades
2017
Nueva lectura e interpretación de un carmen Latinum epigraphicum sepulcral, en el que hay una laudatio de la difunta por contraposición a la mítica Helena. New reading and interpretation of a sepulchral carmen Latinum epigraphicum with a laudatio of the deceased woman in contrast to the mythical Helen.
Algunas reflexiones acerca de la stjue de 9 de julio de 2020 sobre los pactos novatorios en materia de cláusulas suelo
2021
The Sentence of the Court of Justice of the European Union of July 9, 2020 comes to answer the five questions that, in its preliminary question, the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 3 of Teruel asks about the validity of the new agreements in the context of the floor clauses, establishing jurisprudential doctrine on this matter about which our Supreme Court had previously ruled in its Judgments of October 16, 2017, in the sense of considering the agreed floor clause null as a consequence of the novation agreement and, subsequently, those of April 11, 2018 and September 13, 2018 in the opposite direction, declaring that the novation agreement was valid. It is a long-awaited and in…
Analyzing central-line associated bloodstream infection prevention bundles in 22 countries: The results of ID-IRI survey
2022
International audience; BACKGROUND: Because central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) are a significant complication of central venous access, it is critical to prevent CLABSIs through the use of central line bundles. The purpose of this study was to take a snapshot of central venous access bundles in various countries. METHODS: The participants in intensive care units (ICUs) completed a questionnaire that included information about the health center, infection control procedures, and central line maintenance. The countries were divided into 2 groups: those with a low or low-middle income and those with an upper-middle or high income. RESULTS: Forty-three participants from 22…
