Anna Achmatova i Šerlok Cholms: liričeskij geroj i geroj narodnyj

2020

The new comic about Anna Akhmatova is an instance of transmedial translation; the new narrative however is not based on the writer's work but on her biography. This is justified by Akhmatova's conscious and active construction of her own life mythology. The lyrical hero of Akhmatova's poems started living her own life outside the texts: an analogous phenomenon has been observed concerning the heroes of mass-literature, Sherlock Holmes being an outstanding example. Consequently, the methodology which has been developed for the study of mass culture can be fruitfully applied to high literature – this does not mean that Akhmatova is a masscult writer, but rather that the distinction between bo…

Padure (Beltes) piliakalnio (Latvija) osteologinė medžiaga: rūšių pasiskirstymas ir skerdimo technologija

2013

In the excavated Padure (Beltes) hill-fort in Latvia, cultural layers from the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age (Stage 1), and the Middle Iron Age and the Late Iron Age (Stage 2), were detected, which, besides the archaeological material typical of that period, provided abundant zooarchaeological material. This article presents the investigation data from the zooarchaeological material of both stages: the data relate to the butchering techniques used, and the identification of the composition of the faunal species. The investigation was carried out in the bioarchaeological laboratory of the Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology at Klaipėda University. As is proven by the …

Can Paintings Talk? An Ekphrastic Polemic in Post-Stalin Russia

2016

Characterization by solid-state NMR and selective dissolution techniques of anhydrous and hydrated CEM V cement pastes.

2010

International audience; The long term behaviour of cement based materials is strongly dependent on the paste microstructure and also on the internal chemistry. A CEM V blended cement containing pulverised fly ash (PFA) and blastfurnace slag (BFS) has been studied in order to understand hydration processes which influence the paste microstructure. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy with complementary X-ray diffraction analysis and selective dissolution techniques have been used for the characterization of the various phases (C3S, C2S, C3A and C4AF) of the clinker and additives and then for estimation of the degree of hydration of these same phases. Their quantification after simulation of experime…

Prediction of Long-Term Chemical Evolution of a Low-pH Cement Designed for Underground Radioactive Waste Repositories

2012

Low-pH cements, also referred as low-alkalinity cements, are binders with a pore solution pH ≤ 11. They can be designed by replacing significant amounts of Portland cement (OPC) (≥40 %) by silica fume, which can be associated in some cases to low-CaO fly ash and/or ground granulated blast furnace slag to decrease the heat output during hydration by dilution of OPC and improve the mechanical strength of the final material. With the prospect of using these materials in a geological repository, it is of main importance to estimate their long-term properties and the influence of external and internal factors (chemical composition of the binder, storage temperature) on their characteristics. For…

Geopolitical aspects of prudery, or Stalin as the breeches maker: political censorship and puritan censorship in the USSR

2015
