Acute Subdural Hematoma in Pigs: Role of Volume on Multiparametric Neuromonitoring and Histology
2008
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often complicated by acute subdural hemorrhage (ASDH) with a high mortality rate. The pathophysiological mechanisms behind such an injury type and the contribution of blood to the extent of an injury remain poorly understood. Therefore, the goals of this study were to establish a porcine ASDH model in order to investigate pathomechanisms of ASDH and to compare effects induced by blood or sheer volume. Thus, we infused 2, 5, and 9 mL of blood (up to 15% of intracranial volume), and we compared a 5-mL blood and paraffin oil volume to separate out effects of extravasated blood on brain tissue. An extended neuromonitoring was applied that lasted up to 12 h after …

Situational and dispositional factors as predictors of precompetitive anxiety and self-confidence in college athletes
2015
Medicinal Plants from Near East for Cancer Therapy.
2017
Background: Cancer is one of the major problems affecting public health worldwide. As other cultures, the populations of the Near East rely on medicinal herbs and their preparations to fight cancer. Methods: We compiled data derived from historical ethnopharmacological information as well as in vitro and in vivo results and clinical findings extracted from different literature databases including (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar) during the past two decades. Results: In this survey, we analyzed the huge amount of data available on anticancer ethnopharmacological sources used in the Near East. Medicinal herbs are the most dominant ethnopharmacological formula used among ca…
Expression analysis of jagged genes in zebrafish embryos
2005
The interaction of transmembrane Delta and Jagged/Serrate ligands with Notch receptors on neighboring cells is critically involved in cell specification during development. In zebrafish, the early expression of delta but not of jagged genes has been investigated in some detail. We have analyzed the sequence and embryonic expression pattern of the three zebrafish genes jagged1a, jagged1b, and jagged2. These genes, whose transcripts are detectable by in situ hybridization from early somitogenesis, are widely and dynamically expressed in embryos. Coexpression is limited, however, to the notochord and lens (jagged1a and jagged1b) and to the otic vesicle and pronephros (jagged1b and jagged2). Co…
Cultural institutions as agents of urban and community regeneration in the (post-)pandemic city. The case of the «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in Palermo
2022
Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, its impacts on the territories, yet to be understood, are unevenly distributed, revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places. However, it is clear that the virus and its variants have aggravated pre-existing socio-spatial inequalities, creating new ones and bringing attention back to those implications between space, planning, public health and citizenship that are at the origins of contemporary urbanism. In a reference framework in which the crisis is globalized but unequal and in the absence of a welfare system capable of responding to the urgencies of the most marginalized social contexts and g…
The Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: is there a role for somatostatin analogues in the treatment of the gastrinoma?
2018
Purpose: Analyze the role of somatostatin analogues (SSAs) in the treatment of sporadic and MEN1-related gastrinomas, trying to define whether recent trials have changed the landscape of gastrinoma therapy. Methods: We evaluate the rationale of SSA use in the treatment of gastrinomas, summarize the current literature concerning the effect of SSAs on the control of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES) and gastrinomas tumor progression and discuss their role in the most recent guidelines. Results: The medical treatment of gastrinoma and related ZES is aimed at controlling acid hypersecretion and tumor progression, in inoperable patients. The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to control the syn…

Jaunrades veicināšana tēmā:"Gurnu somu izgatavošana" mājsaimniecības mācību priekšmetā 12.klasē
2020
Diplomdarba „Jaunrades veicināšana tēmā: „Gurnu somu izgatavošana” mājsaimniecības mācību priekšmetā 12.klasē” mērķis ir izpētīt gurnu somu izgatavošanas iespējas mājsaimniecības stundās 12.klasē, izstrādāt un aprobēt tematisko plānu, kā arī ar dažādu paņēmienu palīdzību veicināt skolnieču jaunradi. Diplomdarbs „Jaunrades veicināšana tēmā: „Gurnu somu izgatavošana” mājsaimniecības mācību priekšmetā 12.klasē” sastāv no 4 nodaļām un 15 apakšnodaļām.
