Resumen Objetivo Valorar el resultado radiologico y funcional de la artrodesis de la articulacion IFP del 4.° o 5.° dedo de la mano mediante el sistema intramedular de tornillos entrelazados a compresion APEX™ (Extremity Medical, Parsippany, NJ) en pacientes afectos de recidiva grave de la enfermedad de Dupuytren. Material y metodo Los resultados clinicos se valoraron mediante el cuestionario DASH y la escala EVA. En las radiografias se evaluo el angulo de artrodesis, el tiempo de fusion osea y la fijacion del implante. Influence of the metaphysis positioning in a new reverse shoulder prosthesis

Aim of this work is to investigate the behaviour of a new reverse shoulder prosthesis, characterized by a humeral metaphysis with a variable offset, designed to increase the range of movements and to reduce the impingement. In particular, by means of virtual prototypes of the prosthesis, different offset values of the humeral metaphysis have been analysed in order to find the best positioning able to maximize the range of movements of the shoulder joint. Ultrasonographic Measurements of the Achilles Tendon in Elderly Athletes and Sedentary Men

Ultrasonography was performed on the Achilles tendon of the dominant limb of 18 male elderly athletes and 11 sedentary men, aged 70 to 80 years. The tendons were examined with a real-time linear array scanner using a 7.5 MHz transducer. Both longitudinal and transverse images were taken. The mean width of the Achilles tendon was significantly larger in the athletes than in the control subjects. The tendon thickness and cross-sectional area did not differ significantly between the groups, but the figures may indicate a tendency for larger cross-sectional area in the athletes. The results suggest tendon hypertrophy following long-term training.

Introduction The construct validity of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH) has previously been questioned. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the measurement properties of the Finnish version of the DASH for assessing disability in patients with hand complaints using Rasch Measurement Theory. Methods A cohort of 193 patients with typical hand and wrist complaints were recruited at a surgery outpatient clinic.
