The effect of a failure and submaximal blood flow restriction resistance exercise protocol on changes in muscle size, strength and swelling
2016
Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Introduction: Blood flow restricted resistance exercise (BFRRE) can induce rapid increases in muscle size, strength and swelling. No previous research has investigated the importance of conducting BFRRE to voluntary failure and few studies has been carried out to investigate associations between swelling and muscle size. Therefore, the aim of the present study was twofold (1) compare changes in muscle size and strength between a failure (FA) and submaximal (SU) BFRRE protocol (2) investigate associations between swelling and muscle size. Methods: Seventeen untrained men had their legs randomized to FA and SU protocols. The interv…

Questionnaire data on functioning, musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and disability, work ability and wellbeing were collected (response rate 65%) during December 2012–January 2013. 183 employees (mean age 48.5; females 32%) particip…

Football match attendance in Finland
2022
Football fans prefer to see their favourite team win in close matches. Compared to other forms of entertainment, the outcome of sport game is unknown beforehand. Opera audience knows the plot in advance, but in football the winner is revealed only after 90 minutes. The scientific literature of modern sport economics demand theory implies that successful leagues must be based on relatively even competition. This degree of parity within a league is labelled as competitive balance. Sport leagues usually claim that outcome uncertainty is necessary to maintain interest among fans. In this paper, uncertainty of outcome hypothesis is tested applying football data from the highest tier in Finnish m…

Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background: Two different intervention models were developed to increase participation in physical education in high school, targeting “motion enjoyment” and “sport enjoyment”. Promoting Students’ Health at University: Key Stakeholders, Cooperation, and Network Development

Health promoting sports federations : theoretical foundations and guidelines

Methods: A qualitative iterative study was undertaken, based on five 2-h meetings of a group of 15 international researchers in HP in sports clubs. Notes and minut…
Contrasts in fitness, motor competence and physical activity among children involved in single or multiple sports
2021
Abstract Study aim: While there is wide debate around specialization in one sport, there is a lack of information about fitness levels and motor competence of children participating in single or multiple sports. Material and methods: The study involved 358 fifth-grade children who participated in a set of health-related fitness and motor competence tests over two consecutive years. A subsample of children (n = 109) wore an accelerometer for seven consecutive days. The independent samples t-test and ANCOVA were used to compare differences between single and multi-sport participants in study variables and changes between baseline and follow-up. Results: Multi-sport participants performed bett…
