Wasp venom injected into the prey's brain modulates thoracic identified monoaminergic neurons.
2005
The wasp Ampulex compressa injects a cocktail of neurotoxins into the brain of its cockroach prey to induce an enduring change in the execution of locomotory behaviors. Our hypothesis is that the venom injected into the brain indirectly alters the activity of monoaminergic neurons, thus changing the levels of monoamines that tune the central synapses of locomotory circuits. The purpose of the present investigation was to establish whether the venom alters the descending control, from the brain, of octopaminergic neurons in the thorax. This question was approached by recording the activity of specific identified octopaminergic neurons after removing the input from the brain or after a wasp s…
Insect venom immunotherapy induces interleukin-10 production and a Th2-to-Th1 shift, and changes surface marker expression in venom-allergic subjects.
1997
Abstract The current study was carried out to elucidate the immunoregulatory changes induced by venom immunotherapy (VIT) in bee or wasp allergic subjects. All subjects included in this study had a history of severe systemic allergic reactions to stings of the respective insect as well as positive skin tests with the respective venom or venom-specific IgE in the sera. Parameters assessed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) before and after initiation of VIT (rush therapy reaching a maintenance dose of 100 micrograms venom injected subcutaneously within 1 week) were expression of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA, CD45RO, interleukin (IL)-2 receptor (R) alpha, IL-4R, IL-12R, Fc epsilon RII, CD4…
Atbildība par īpaši aizsargājamām sugām un biotopiem nodarīto kaitējumu
2017
Darbā aplūkotas videi nodarītā kaitējuma novēršanas un atlīdzināšanas īpatnības, salīdzinot tās ar “tradicionālo” civiltiesisko zaudējumu atlīdzināšanas modeli. Analizētas nodarītā kaitējuma novēršanas tiesiskās problēmas, ja iznīcināti vai bojāti biotopi un īpaši aizsargājamās sugas. Pētīts šo objektu tiesiskais statuss, kaitējuma videi atlīdzināšanas tiesiskā regulējuma ģenēze Eiropas Savienībā un Latvijā, kā arī tiesību normu piemērošanas prakse Latvijā un atsevišķās citās Eiropas Savienības dalībvalstīs. Atslēgvārdi: kaitējums videi, kaitējuma videi atlīdzināšanas pamatnoteikumi, vispārējā un stingrā atbildība, īpaši aizsargājamo sugu un biotopu tiesiskā aizsardzība.
A stinging wasp in the stomach: accidental endoscopic diagnosis of a systemic anaphylactic reaction.

of a proton pump inhibitor and prokinetic treatment. Because of her medical history, an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy was performed. We discovered, in the proximalpartof theantrumonthegreater curvature, an intact dead wasp with its sting visible and an underlying slightly swollen red welt in the area of the sting
