Molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of stress response in Oenococcus oeni and experimental evolution

Oenococcus oeni is the main bacterium responsible of malolactic fermentation in wine. This lactic acid bacteria grow in the stressful wine environment (high ethanol content, sulfites, low pH and low temperatures….). To maintain its cellular homeostasis, O. oeni has established mechanisms of resistance to its ecological niche. This research work focuses on the adaptative response of O. oeni to its environment and especially to acidity. Evaluation of crack-closure by second harmonic thermoelastic stress analysis

The work illustrates a new experimental approach to evaluate crack-closure in samples undergoing Fatigue Crack-Growing. Crack-closure leaves a peculiar signature on both amplitude and phase of the harmonic of the temperature signal at twice the loading frequency (Second Harmonic), due to the periodic nature of the internal elastic compression stresses. Thermoelastic Stress Analysis (TSA) is successfully applied to reveal such signatures on Single-Edge-Notched steel samples. A methodology is also proposed to evaluate the Crack-Opening-Load from temperature data. Abstract Our understanding of the flow properties of deforming rocks in the Earth's lithosphere is mainly based on theoretical work and on the extrapolation of high-strain-rate experimental data to the low strain rates of rock deformation in nature. The geometry of structures in naturally deformed rocks can be an additional source of information on the rheology of the lithosphere. Flow experiments show that the geometry of a mantle of recrystallised material around a rigid object can be used to distinguish between a linear or power-law relation of differential stress and strain rate in strongly deformed rocks such as mylonites. Cactus pear fruit extract exerts anti-inflammatory effects in carrageenin-induced rat pleurisy

Nutritional research has recently shifted from alleviating nutrient deficiencies to chronic disease prevention. In this study activity of cactus pear fruit extract (CPFE) from Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. has been investigated in carrageenin-induced pleurisy, a rat model of acute inflammation. In our experimental design rat pleurisy was achieved by the injection of 0.2 ml of λ-carrageenin in the pleural cavity.
