The Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Factorial Structure: Findings from a Multicultural Sample
2020
Although several studies exploring Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) factorial structure have been conducted, few of them have tested the ICD-11 and the DSM-5-based models in samples from low-in...
Oxidative stress induces the expression of the major histocompatibility complex in murine tumor cells.
2001
The effect of t-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) on the induction of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class I genes has been studied in two cell clones (B9 and G2) of the methylcholanthrene-induced murine fibrosarcoma GR9. These two clones were selected based on their different biological and biochemical behavior specially related to their tumor induction capability when injected into a BALB/c mouse. t-BOOH (0.125 mM) induced the expression of H-2 molecules in both cell clones. In B9 cell clone, in which MHC basal expression is very low or absent, t-BOOH significantly induced H-2Kd, H-2Dd and H-2Ld molecules. In G2 cell clone the expression of MHC class I genes was also enhanced by th…
Shear resistance analytical evaluation for RC beams with transverse reinforcement with two different inclinations
2020
An analysis-oriented mechanical model for shear strength evaluation of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams with transverse reinforcement with two different inclinations, which required a numerical analysis, is turned into a design-oriented analytical model that can easily be utilized for practical purposes. The model assessed the shear resistance, according to the “lower-bound solution”, employing a numerical procedure that maximizes the element shear strength varying the stresses in the two sets of transverse reinforcement and the magnitude and inclination of the web concrete compressive stress field. The model is formulated with the aim of representing an extension of Eurocode 2 framework to R…
Uneven economic burden of non-communicable diseases among Indian households: A comparative analysis
2021
Background Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading global cause of death and disproportionately concentrate among those living in low-income and middle-income countries. However, its economic impact on households remains less well known in the Indian context. This study aims to assess the economic impact of NCDs in terms of out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) and its catastrophic impact on NCDs affected households in India. Materials and methods Data were collected from the 75th round of the National Sample Survey Office, Government of India, conducted in the year 2017–18. This is the latest round of data available on health, which constitutes a sample of 113,823 households. The coll…
Stressing sequence of steel cable-stayed bridges built by cantilevering
2015
The construction of cable-stayed bridges by cantilevering implies several changes of geometry, stress and strain patterns during the assemblage of segments. The main target to be satisfied in the construction process is the achievement of the required final geometry and of a convenient state of stress for self-weight and sustained loads. The sequence of stay stressing and the values of prestressing forces at each stage of segment assembling have the main role for reaching the desired result of design, due to the large redundancy of cable-stayed structures.Among the different procedures proposed in the literature for initial cable force determination, the Partial Elastic Scheme (PES) Method …

In Vitro Bioactivity of Astaxanthin and Peptides from Hydrolisates of Shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) By-Products: From the Extraction Process to B…
2021
Non-edible parts of crustaceans could be a rich source of valuable bioactive compounds such as the carotenoid astaxanthin and peptides, which have well-recognized beneficial effects. These compounds are widely used in nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, and their market is rapidly growing, suggesting the need to find alternative sources. The aim of this work was to set up a pilot-scale protocol for the reutilization of by-products of processed shrimp, in order to address the utilization of this valuable biomass for nutraceutical and pharmaceuticals application, through the extraction of astaxanthin-enriched oil and antioxidant-rich protein hydrolysates. Astaxanthin (AST) was obtained using …
In-vitro antioxidant capacity and cytoprotective/cytotoxic effects upon Caco-2 cells of red tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) viscera hydrolysates.
2019
Abstract The antioxidant capacity of red tilapia viscera hydrolysates (RTVH) with different degrees of hydrolysis (DH) as well as their ultrafiltration membrane fractions, were analyzed using different chemical assays. Their protective effects against oxidative stress were evaluated using H2O2-stressed human intestinal differentiated Caco-2. The highest antioxidant capacity was obtained with a DH of 42.5% (RTVH-A) and its
Wind forcing and fate of Sardinella aurita eggs and larvae in the Sicily Channel (Mediterranean Sea)
2015
Abstract. Multidisciplinary studies are recently seeking to define diagnostic tools for fishery sustainability by coupling ichthyoplanktonic datasets, physical and bio-geochemical oceanographic measurements, and ocean modelling. The main goal of these efforts is the understanding of those processes that control fate and dispersion of fish larvae and eggs and thus tune the inter-annual variability of biomass of fish species. We here analyzed eggs and larvae distribution and biological features of Sardinella aurita in the northeast sector of the Sicily Channel (Mediterranean Sea) collected during the 2010 and 2011 summer cruises. We make use of satellite sea surface temperature, wind, and chl…
