Childhood Adversities and Adult Headache in Poland and Germany.

2015

Objective Various childhood adversities have been found to be associated with chronic pain in adulthood. However, associations were moderate in most studies, i.e. odds ratios (OR) were between one and two. Method An internet survey was performed in 508 Polish and 500 German subjects. A total of 19 childhood adversities were selected and their associations with headaches explored. Age, gender and country were included as potential confounders, as well as their two-way interaction with the risk factors. Results Two strong risk factors were identified. (1) A combined score for physical and emotional neglect showed an odds ratio (OR) of 2.78 (p < .002) to the frequency of headache in adulthood …

Minimization of childhood maltreatment is common and consequential: results from a large, multinational sample using the childhood trauma questionnai…

2016

Childhood maltreatment has diverse, lifelong impact on morbidity and mortality. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) is one of the most commonly used scales to assess and quantify these experiences and their impact. Curiously, despite very widespread use of the CTQ, scores on its Minimization-Denial (MD) subscale-originally designed to assess a positive response bias-are rarely reported. Hence, little is known about this measure. If response biases are either common or consequential, current practices of ignoring the MD scale deserve revision. Therewith, we designed a study to investigate 3 aspects of minimization, as defined by the CTQ's MD scale: 1) its prevalence; 2) its latent struc…

Do child abuse and maltreatment increase risk of schizophrenia?

2012

INTRODUCTION: IntroductionaaAlthough childhood abuse is a recognised risk factor for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance misuse, its role in the aetiology of psychotic disorder remained controversial. This is in part because the putative effect of childhood trauma on psychosis has been mostly evaluated by small, cross sectional, uncontrolled studies that raised methodological issues. METHODS: Papers concerning the association between childhood trauma and psychotic disorders (to November, 2011) were identified using a comprehensive search of PubMed, Psychinfo, and Scopus and analysing reference list of relevant papers. A narrative synthesis was used to summarise results…

The Cathedral of Palermo : from survey to historic interpretation

2013

The Cathedral of Palermo was built by the Norman Kings, in the place where a mosque had been erected by the muslim governors of Sicily. The church has many features recalling the norman churches in northern France and in England, whilst some others are due to the contamination of norman, muslim and byzantine culture, that is peculiar of the so-called “arab-norman” architecture of medieval Sicily. In the XVIth century the Cathedral has been enriched by additions that did not affect its medieval features: a portico and a sacristy on the southern front, a sculptural decoration in the main apse. It was at the end of the XVIIIth century that the church underwent huge and extensive transformation…

Sunscreen analysis

2005

Although there are no official analytical methods for UV filters determination in sunscreen cosmetics, their maximum content are regulated by legislation, and then analytical methods to control these products are necessary. In this paper, analytical methods for UV filters determination in cosmetics, which can be found in the literature, are reviewed. The usefulness of the analytical methods, techniques and sample preparation is discussed. The analytical methods used for the determination of UV filters in other type of samples are commented upon. Moreover, a brief overview of the European Union legislation concerning UV filters is included.

Are deep eutectic solvents useful in chromatography? A short review.

2021

A literature update has been done concerning Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) use in chromatography applications. The literature survey was based on the period from 2010 till 2020 and manuscripts reported in the data bases Web of Science and Scopus. The use of DES as mobile phase and mobile phase additives, stationary phases and solid phase modifiers and the use of DES as reaction solvents for chromatography use, were evaluated. Emphasis was placed on the differentiation of DES and Ionic Liquids (ILs) and the advanced green characteristics of the new solvents as compared with traditional organic solvents and ILs with a look into the drawbacks and future perspectives in the field of separation m…

Literature survey of the on-line preconcentration in flow-injection atomic spectrometric analysis

1992

The literature on the use of “on-line” preconcentration in flow injection atomic spectrometric analysis is reviewed, taking into account its application both in flame and electrothermal atomic absorption methods as well as in plasma emission spectrometry. The basis of the different preconcentration approaches, such as liquid-liquid extraction, column preconcentration and “on-line” precipitation are discussed. The literature survey reveals the analytical performance of the developed methodologies.

Project Management Information Systems (PMISs): A Statistical-Based Analysis for the Evaluation of Software Packages Features

2021

Project Managers (PMs) working in competitive markets are finding Project Management Information Systems (PMISs) useful for planning, organizing and controlling projects of varying complexity. A wide variety of PMIS software is available, suitable for projects differing in scope and user needs. This paper identifies the most useful features found in PMISs. An extensive literature review and analysis of commercial software is made to identify the main features of PMISs. Afterwards, the list is reduced by a panel of project management experts, and a statistical analysis is performed on data acquired by means of two different surveys. The relative importance of listed features is properly comp…

Discovering the Cohesion of a Volleyball Team and Finding the Right Leader of the Group

2018

Abstract The main focus of the research was to discover the cohesion of our team and to find the leader of our volleyball group. The research sample was composed of 12 players with aged between 10 and 12 years old that play for CSM Bucharest at mini-volleyball level. The main research methods used was the sociometric survey method which aimed to find the elections and rejections in our group and to discover the hierarchy of every player in the team. The results showed that we had 8 mutual elections and 4 mutual rejections in our group, and an index of cohesion of 0.06 with a coefficient of cohesion of 0.12 that showed us that our volleyball team is cohesive and united, the group leaders wer…

Collaborative Governance in Portugal – Yes or No? A critical approach based on an empirical survey

2019

Collaborative governance can be defined as a concerted type of decision-making and collective action in which government bodies and private sector stakeholders interact as equal partners with the aim of achieving outcomes of interest for both parties. In practical terms, this is a type of governance where special meetings and negotiations are held – typically in somewhat elitist and secretive settings – with the aim of defining shared responsibilities and benefits associated with joint public-private ventures. Academic authors in favour of the adoption of collaborative governance in Portugal tend to present a rather positive view on the merits of this approach. They argue that it is potenti…
