This chapter provides a description of the sampling design and weighting strategies adopted in the fifth wave of SHARE. We begin by defining the target population that SHARE aims to represent. Next, we describe the sampling design focusing on the basic principles guiding the construction of the SHARE sample, the role played by sampling frames for coverage of the target population, and other important aspects of sampling - such as stratification, clustering and variation in selection probabilities - that affect the efficiency of sample-based inference. A high volume of redundant data transmitted through the network will result in collisions, data loss, and energy dissipation. The Continuous Sample of Working Lives (CSWL) is a set of anonymized microdata with information about individuals taken from Spanish Social Security records. It provides very valuable information, which is used in many studies on labor economics and in the analysis of the Spanish public pension system. This article presents two major contributions: The first is an analysis of how representative CSWL is of the population of pensioners for the period 2005-2013. It is concluded that the CSWL does not follow the same distribution as the population with respect to some types of benefits, and that this happens in most waves. Sample time error can degrade the performance of time-interleaved analog to digital converters (TIADCs). A fully digital background algorithm is presented in this paper to estimate and correct the timing mismatch errors between four interleaved channels, together with its hardware implementation. The proposed algorithm provides low computation burden and high performance. It is based on the simplified representation of the coefficients of the Lagrange interpolator. Thermal or finite-size scaling analyses of importance sampling Monte Carlo time series in the vicinity of phase transition points often combine different estimates for the same quantity, such as a critical exponent, with the intent to reduce statistical fluctuations. We point out that the origin of such estimates in the same time series results in often pronounced cross-correlations which are usually ignored even in high-precision studies, generically leading to significant underestimation of statistical fluctuations. Correcting for non-ignorable missingness in smoking trends

Data missing not at random (MNAR) is a major challenge in survey sampling. We propose an approach based on registry data to deal with non-ignorable missingness in health examination surveys. The approach relies on follow-up data available from administrative registers several years after the survey. For illustration we use data on smoking prevalence in Finnish National FINRISK study conducted in 1972-1997. The data consist of measured survey information including missingness indicators, register-based background information and register-based time-to-disease survival data.
