A physically demanding occupation predicts premature retirement among patients with erosive arthritis
1998
The aim of this study was to assess the intensity of exercise and energy expenditure of patients with recent onset inflammatory arthritis in their occupational environments and leisure time physical activities. The exercise intensities and energy expenditures of 41 early inflammatory arthritis patients and 20 matched healthy controls were assessed in occupational work and in leisure time physical activities during a 3.5-year follow-up using metabolic unit values. Disease activity was assessed by erythrocyte sedimentation rate and Ritchie's articular index. Subjective disability was assessed by the Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire and the extent of joint damage on X-rays of the hands…
AB0210 Quality of Life Indexes in Patients with Very Early Rheumatoid Arthritis (VERA): A Two Center Subgroup Analysis from The Adapthera Cohort: Tab…
2016
Background The significance of early diagnosis and early therapy initiation in patients with RA is tremendous. ADAPTHERA is a state wide rheumatology network based in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. ADAPTHERA aims to improve RA prognosis and quality of patients` life by reducing the time-to-RA-diagnosis. While there have been a lot of studies regarding quality of life in patients with established RA 1,2 , adequate data concerning very early rheumatoid arthritis (VERA) (disease duration Objectives To study quality of life in VERA patients and to investigate its associations with various RA associated clinical and laboratory parameters. Methods In a two center subgroup analysis from the ADAPTH…
Response-based chemotherapy and involved field radiation for intermediate stage Hodgkin disease. A GISL/NHLSG trial.
2006
Abstract Background. Most of the patients with advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma can be cured with a standard course of six cycle of ABVD chemotherapy plus involved field (IF)radiotherapy. Patients with less advanced stage or with a more responsive disease could possibly achieve a cure with a shorter course of chemotherapy. In 1992, in the pre-PET era, the GISL addressed the issue of the proper number of chemotherapy cycles planning a response-oriented, ABVD-based study for intermediate-stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma patients. Patients and Methods. From January 1992 to December 2002, 218 patients younger than 70 were enrolled. Eligible patients had histologically confirmed and clinically staged Hod…

Formation of microbial organic carbonates during the Late Jurassic from the Northern Tethys (Amu Darya Basin, Uzbekistan): implications for Jurassic …
2020
23 pages; International audience; The Late Jurassic was a period of major global carbon cycle perturbations with episodes of anoxia leading to regional accumulation of organic matter in sediments worldwide. The Tubiegatan section (SW Gissar Mountains, Uzbekistan) located in the Northern Tethys, shows atypical organic-rich limestone and marl deposits (up to 6% of total organic carbon) marked by pronounced negative excursions of δ13Ccarb (amplitude of ca. 12‰) and δ13Corg (amplitude of ca. 4‰) recorded during the Middle Oxfordian (Transversarium Zone). A transdisciplinary approach including sedimentology, palynofacies characterization, mineralogy, organic and inorganic geochemistry was carrie…
Early Treatment of Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis with Canakinumab and Complete Remission After 2 Years of Treatment Suspension: Case Report …
2019
Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) is an autoinflammatory disease characterised by fever and arthritis. We describe the case of a 14-year-old girl hospitalised with fever associated with rash, myalgia, arthralgia and polyarticular involvement. Examinations revealed increased levels of C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ferritin, triglycerides, leukocytes, neutrophils, lactate dehydrogenase, fibrinogen, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT). Bone marrow biopsy showed polyclonal leukocyte activation. A genetic study revealed a heterozygous mutation of the MEFV gene, c.442G>C (E148Q), which is typical of…
The Impact of Grain Size Composition and Organic Matter Content on Magnetic Susceptibility of Anthropogenically Transformed Bottom Sediments, as Exem…
2018
The article presents the results of an analysis of the surface layer of bottom sediments in the naval harbour in Hel. During field work conducted in June 2013, 54 sediment samples were collected. The aim of the study was to examine magnetic susceptibility of harbour sediment as a parameter determining the degree of anthropopressure. As part of laboratory tests, grain size analysis was performed in order to determine organic matter content and magnetic susceptibility of the sediment. The study also measured the impact of environmental factors on fluctuations in the other studied parameters. The results demonstrate increased dynamics of sedimentary environment in the open part of the naval ha…
A regional-scale discontinuity in western Sicily revealed by a multidisciplinary approach: A new piece for understanding the geodynamic puzzle of the…
2015
The results of an integrated stratigraphic, structural, geophysical, and geochemical study reveal the presence of a crustal discontinuity in western Sicily that, at present, runs roughly N-S along a band from San Vito Lo Capo to Sciacca. The boundary between the two zones of this discontinuity is nearly orthogonal to the main thrust propagation of the Sicilian thrust-and-fold belt. The different Permian to Tertiary sedimentary evolution recorded by the two zones appears related to this discontinuity, with thick carbonate platforms in the western sector facing deepwater successions in the eastern one. The presence of Upper Triassic reefs, huge megabreccia bodies, and widespread submarine vol…
Photochemical sample treatment: A greener approach for PCBs analysis in sediments
2012
Electrical installations and industrial outlets are the major source in environment of chlorinated organic compounds. These are distributed in several geographical areas through long-range atmospheric transport and deposition. Additionally, chlorinated organic compounds can be introduced in the food chain and reach the consumers in very high levels. Besides toxicological studies on PCBs, recent research is focusing on more sophisticated analytical methods for PCBs detection. Distribution and dispersion of PCBs mostly occur through air, water, soils, and sediments. The latter are complex matrices whose analysis often involves costly extraction and purification procedures. In particular, PCBs…
