Emerging contributions of formyl peptide receptors to neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract Inflammation is a central element of many neurodegenerative diseases. Formyl peptide receptors (FPRs) can trigger several receptor-dependent signal transduction pathways that play a key role in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. They are chemotactic receptors that help to regulate pro- and anti-inflammatory responses in most mammals. FPRs are primarily expressed in the immune and nervous systems where they interact with a complex pattern of pathogen-derived and host-endogenous molecules. Structure Sensitivity of 2-Methyl-3-butyn-2-ol Hydrogenation on Pd: Computational and Experimental Modeling

In the frame of DFT paradigms, the adsorption of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (MBY) and 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol (MBE) on a Pd-30 cluster, including both {100} and {111} faces, was studied along with the pathways involved in the hydrogenation, taking place on plane and low coordination (corner/edge) sites of given MBY/Pd-30 and MBE/Pd-30 surface configurations. The size of aryl linker between two polyaza-cyclophane moieties controls the binding selectivity to ds-RNA vs ds-DNA

Aryl-linked (pyridine- vs. phenanthroline-) bis-polyaza pyridinophane scorpiands PYPOD and PHENPOD strongly bind to the double stranded DNA and RNA, whereby very intriguing RNA over DNA selectivity is finely tuned by aryl-linker length and aromatic surface. Moreover, PYPOD and PHENPOD dimer formation at high compound/polynucleotide ratios is highly sensitive to the fine interplay between the steric and binding properties of compound-dimers and the DNA minor groove/RNA major groove. Halogenated derivatives of boldine with high selectivity for alpha1A-adrenoceptors in rat cerebral cortex.

The selectivity of 3-nitrosoboldine and different halogenated derivatives of boldine (3-bromoboldine, 3,8-dibromoboldine and 3-chloroboldine) for alpha1-adrenoceptor subtypes was studied by examining [3H]-prazosin competition binding in rat cerebral cortex. In the competition experiments [3H]-prazosin binding was inhibited completely by all the compounds tested. The inhibition curves displayed shallow slopes which could be subdivided into high and low affinity components. The relative order of affinity and selectivity for alpha1A-adrenoceptors was 3-bromoboldine = 3,8-dibromoboldine = 3-chloroboldineboldine3-nitrosoboldine. These methods are particularly effective for processing large solution volumes at low cost.
