Selective recognition of aromatic hydrocarbons by endo-functionalized molecular tubes via C/N-H⋅⋅⋅π interactions

2018

Abstract Molecular recognition of aromatic hydrocarbons by four endo -functionalized molecular tubes has been studied by 1 H NMR spectroscopy, computational methods, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The binding selectivity is rationalized by invoking shape complementarity and dipole alignment. The non-covalent interactions are proved to predominantly be C/N-H⋅⋅⋅ π interactions.

Phosphonomethyl-substituted phenols are readily obtained from o-hydroxymethylated phenols and trialkyl phosphites. The free acids, incorporated into phenol-formaldehyde resins, act as cation exchangers with remarkable selectivity for different metal ions.

Homocalixpyridines: Ligands Exhibiting High Selectivity in Extraction and Sensor Processes

1998

A novel spherical host architecture, based on pyridine subunits, has been created. It exhibits selective complexing properties toward soft metal ions (right), which have been tested in extraction and sensor processes. The complex-forming behaviour can be tailored by variation of the size of the cavity and by substitution. Homocalixpyridines are interesting in view of their application as selective carriers in separation and sensing techniques.

Computational methods and theory for ion channel research

2022

Ion channels are fundamental biological devices that act as gates in order to ensure selective ion transport across cellular membranes; their operation constitutes the molecular mechanism through which basic biological functions, such as nerve signal transmission and muscle contraction, are carried out. Here, we review recent results in the field of computational research on ion channels, covering theoretical advances, state-of-the-art simulation approaches, and frontline modeling techniques. We also report on few selected applications of continuum and atomistic methods to characterize the mechanisms of permeation, selectivity, and gating in biological and model channels.

Adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in early adolescents’ socioemotional functioning

2018

The present study examined adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in the socioemotional functioning of early adolescents. A total of 869 sixth-grade students and 668 mothers participated in the study. The students rated their temperament and socioemotional functioning and the mothers rated their own temperament. Latent profile analyses identified four temperament types among the adolescents (resilient, reserved, average, and mixed) and three types among the mothers (resilient, average, and mixed). The results showed that the adolescents with resilient or reserved temperaments reported significantly fewer conduct problems and emotional symptoms, less hyperactivity, and …

Bienestar Docente durante la Pandemia COVID-19 : La Comparación entre Ecuador y Chile

2021

Heterogeneous Photocatalysis for Selective Formation of High-Value-Added Molecules: Some Chemical and Engineering Aspects

2018

This review deals with the parameters that influence heterogeneous photocatalysis (PC) for selective synthesis of high-value chemicals by itself or in combination with other technologies. In particular, the parameters related to the photocatalysts, such as crystallinity degree, type of polymorph, surface acid-base properties, exposure of particular crystalline facets, coupling of different semiconductors, position of the valence and conduction band edge, addition of doping agents, and those related to the reaction system, such as setup configuration and reactor geometry, type of solvent, type and amount of photocatalyst, affecting the selectivity toward specific products are described and d…

Identifying Finnish Children’s Impulsivity Trajectories From Kindergarten to Grade 4: Associations With Academic and Socioemotional Development

2015

Research Findings: The purpose of this study was to identify the developmental trajectories of impulsive behavior among 378 Finnish children who were followed from kindergarten to fourth grade. In addition to ratings of children’s impulsivity, the analyses included measures of motivation, cognitive skills, socio-emotional adjustment, and teacher–student relationship. Four latent groups were identified that differed in the level and change of the children’s impulsive behavior across time: first, a group with low impulsivity; second, a group with decreasing impulsivity; third, a group with moderate impulsivity; and, fourth, a small group with a contradictory trajectory showing an upward trend…

“One Ring to Bind Them All”—Part II: Identification of Promising G-Quadruplex Ligands by Screening of Cyclophane-Type Macrocycles

2010

A collection of 26 polyammonium cyclophane-type macrocycles with a large structural diversity has been screened for G-quadruplex recognition. A two-step selection procedure based on the FRET-melting assay was carried out enabling identification of macrocycles of high affinity (ΔT1/2up to30°C) and high selectivity for the human telomeric G-quadruplex. The four selected hits possess sophisticated architectures, more particularly the presence of a pendant side-arm as well as the existence of a particular topological arrangement appear to be strong determinants of quadruplex binding. These compounds are thus likely to create multiple contacts with the target that may be at the origin of their h…
