Teachers' physiological and self-reported stress, teaching practices and students' learning outcomes in Grade 1.
2022
Background Teachers' self-reported stress is related to the quality of teacher–student interactions and students' learning outcomes. However, it is unclear if teachers' physiological stress is related to child-centred teaching practices in the classroom and whether teaching practices mediate the link between teachers' stress and students' learning outcomes. Aims We studied the effect of teachers' physiological stress and self-reported stress on their teaching practices and thereby on students' learning outcomes in math. Sample A total of 53 classroom teachers and 866 Grade 1 students participated in the study. Methods Salivary cortisol in the middle of the school day and cortisol slope from…
Principal self-efficacy and school climate as antecedents of collective teacher efficacy
2023
The importance of collective teacher efficacy (CTE) has been increasingly emphasised, but few studies have focused on how it can be enhanced. Since CTE is assumed to be related to factors that differ between schools, the belief-shaping sources of CTE could be related to principals’ beliefs of their efficacy. Moreover, a school climate that centralises teachers’ attempts to improve student learning could enhance CTE. This paper examines a proposed analytical model that links principal self-efficacy (PSE) to CTE, as mediated by the school climate. The model is tested via a multilevel analysis with data from 70 Finnish schools and 767 educators. The analysis revealed that PSE is partially and …
“I felt a bit nervous” : Virtual Exchange as an emotional journey
2021
Virtual Exchange is a collective term for a set of collaborative online learning practices that cut across institutional, cultural, and international borders. Moving outside their learning environments, the participants engage in project work with foreign peers. The teams have to work across time zones, use foreign languages, manage cultural differences and apply digital tools for communication and collaboration. The virtual projects enhance the development of transversal work/life skills, which are an asset in today’s global labour market. The aim of the present study is to explore the emotional trajectory of Virtual Exchange based on the students’ e-portfolios. By analysing the self-evalu…
Negative and positive Kerr nonlinearity of air calibrated with transient molecular alignment
2009
Talk given by O. Faucher; International audience; Nonlinear electronic Kerr index of the major air constituents has been measured up to high order terms using transient molecular alignment as a reference. Sign reversal associated to negative nonlinearity is observed above a pulse intensity of 26 TW/cm^.2
Upper secondary school students as speakers of English and Swedish : Speaking outside the school and language self
2010
Suullinen kielitaito on tärkeää nykypäivän kansainvälisessä maailmassa. Tämän kandidaatin tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten abiturientit puhuvat englantia ja ruotsia koulun ulkopuolella, ja kuinka he näkevät itsensä näiden kielten puhujina. Tutkielman viitekehys muodostui hyvän suullisen kielitaidon määrittelystä kommunikatiivisen kompetenssin käsitteen avulla, kieliminä-käsitteen kuvailusta sekä aiemmista tutkimuksista, joissa on selvitty suomalaisten englannin ja ruotsin puhumista. Tutkimusaihe on ajankohtainen, koska lukioihin on tulossa uusi suullisen kielitaidon kurssi syksyllä 2010.
Pētījumā piedalījās 169 jaunieši (131 sieviete, 38 vīrieši) vecumā no 19 līdz 25 gadiem, vidējais vecums – 21,53 (SD = 1,85) gadi, kuri pašlaik studē dažādas izglītības iestādēs (universitāte, institūts, koledža, tehnikums, arodskola) un dzīvo dažādās Latvijas pilsētās. Datu ievākšanai tika izmantotas šādas metodes: Bērnības traumas aptauja (Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Bernstein & Fink, 1998), Apmierinātības ar dzīvi skala (Satisfaction With Life Scale, Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985), Vispārēja pašefektivitātes aptauja (General Self-Efficacy Scale,…
Total Pain and Illness Acceptance in Pelvic Cancer Patients: Exploring Self-Efficacy and Stress in a Moderated Mediation Model.
2022
Cancer patients experience pain not only in its physical dimension, but also in a broader context that includes psychological, social, and spiritual aspects due to a higher level of anxiety and stress. The present prospective, longitudinal study examined the relationship between total pain and illness acceptance among pelvic cancer patients, taking into consideration the moderated mediation effects of self-efficacy and stress. The study involved a sample of pelvic cancer patients receiving radiotherapy treatment. Assessments were completed at T1 (before radiotherapy), T2 (after 3–4 weeks), and T3 (after radiotherapy) to assess the psychosocial dynamics of illness acceptance (N = 267). The m…
Līdzatkarības, pašdiferencācijas un personības iezīmju savstarpējā saistība sievietēm
2019
Self-cleaning ZnO/ITO/PET Bending Sensors
2022
The design of multifunctional materials is of pivotal importance for developing wearable biosensors. In particular, the advancement in self-cleaning materials suitable for bending sensors, i.e. devices able to track human body movements for healthcare monitoring [1], has raised much interest in recent pandemic times. Such technology can be facilitated by leveraging piezo-photocatalytic cleaning effects under visible light [2]. Herein, we show a new class of ZnO-based nanosheets (NSs) synthesized in aqueous solution (85 °C, 24 hours) onto seeded or seedless ITO/PET surfaces that couple sensing to photocatalysis. UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies show the typical absorption peaks of ZnO. A nano…
