Spatial Cognition 2020/1: Book of abstracts : August 2-4, 2021, University of Latvia

2021

Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external re…

Laika apzīmējumi Homēra Odisejas valodā

2018

Emotions and Activity Recognition System Using Wearable Device Sensors

2021

Nowadays machines have become extremely smart, there are a lot of existing services that seemed to be unexpectable and futuristic decades or even a few years ago. However, artificial intelligence is still far from human intelligence, machines do not have feelings, consciousness, and intuition. How can we help machines to learn about human feelings and understand their needs better? People take their devices wherever they go, what can devices tell us about their owners? Personal preferences and needs are dependent on emotional and situational contexts. Therefore, emotional and activity aware gadgets would be more intuitive and provide more appropriate information to users. Contemporary weara…

Le parole dell'odio. Dal lessico alle pratiche verbali

2017

Image classification based on 2D feature motifs

2013

The classification of raw data often involves the problem of selecting the appropriate set of features to represent the input data. In general, various features can be extracted from the input dataset, but only some of them are actually relevant for the classification process. Since relevant features are often unknown in real-world problems, many candidate features are usually introduced. This degrades both the speed and the predictive accuracy of the classifier due to the presence of redundancy in the candidate feature set. In this paper, we study the capability of a special class of motifs previously introduced in the literature, i.e. 2D irredundant motifs, when they are exploited as feat…

How Do Proverbs Get Their Meanings? The Model of Interpretation Based on a Metaphor Theory.

2011

The constellation of proverbs is quite permanent. Only one third of proverbs are supposed to change in about one hundred years (Kuusi 1994: 117−118). This means that the proverbs used in the 21st century are much the same as the proverbs in the beginning of the 20th century and quite the same as in 1850’s. In this article I focus on the proverb as a significant unit. Even if the proverbs are unchangeable, their meanings are not. The proverbial expressions can be looked from at least four stand points: (1) What is the proverb decoded to mean? (2) What do the words mean? (3) What does the speaker mean? (4) How does the listener interpret the proverb? With all the four ways there are some weak…

Linear Types for Higher Order Processes with First Class Directed Channels

1995

Abstract We present a small programming language for distributed systems based on message passing processes. In contrast to similar languages, channels are one-to-one connections between a unique sender and a unique receiver process. Process definitions and channels are first class values and the topology of process systems can change dynamically. The operational semantics of the language is defined by means of graph rewriting rules. A static type system based on the notion of linear types ensures that channels are always used as one-to-one connections.

Naming sensory impressions in winespeak between professionals and non-professionals

2014

International audience; Connections between semantics — for instance, cognitive semantic models such as prototype theory — and sensory analysis have often been studied from an interdisciplinary perspective involving disciplines such as linguistics, cognitive psychology, and chemistry. Among the many fields concerned with this topic, this paper will focus on the particular case of winespeak and especially on the co-construction of a shared knowledge between professionals and consumers. The hypothesis to be verified is (i) that objectivist and strict terminological approaches can not account for the processes at work when professionals and non professionals try to agree on the ‘specialized me…

Frasi pseudoscisse e a verbo supporto: analogie

2015

Abstract.
