Where is meaning going? Semantic Potentials and Enactive Grammars
2018
The paper tries to explicate the relationship between two fundamental concepts of the theoretical research in cognitive linguistics: semantic potentials and enactive grammars. It is divided into three parts. The first one introduces the notion of semantic potential. In the second part, we examine the notion of enaction with particular reference to its applications in the theoretical framework of linguistic reflexion. In the last one, you can find a detailed analysis of some theoretical topics that are at the center of the actual debate.
Integrated three-dimensional models for noninvasive monitoring and valorization of the Morgantina silver treasure (Sicily)
2016
The Morgantina silver treasure belonging to the Archaeological Museum of Aidone (Sicily) was involved in a three-dimensional (3-D) survey and diagnostics campaign for monitoring the collection over time in anticipation of their temporary transfer to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for a period of 4 years. Using a multidisciplinary approach, a scientific and methodological protocol based on noninvasive techniques to achieve a complete and integrated knowledge of the precious items and their conservation state, as well as to increase their valorization, has been developed. All acquired data, i.e., 3-D models, ultraviolet fluorescence, x-ray images, and chemical information, will be…
Due usi italiani di "enunciazione"
2015
This article examines two uses of the word enunciation in some recent contributions of the italian semiotics: a) “enunciation” as activation of open semantic potentials (VIOLI 2003) ; b) “enunciation” as modulation of local encyclopedic sections (PAOLUCCI 2010). Thanks to the theoretical resources of two fundamental research programs as Benveniste’s linguistics (LEB) and Culioli’s theory of predicative and enunciative operations (TOPE), we try to demonstrate that these uses are variants of the same general idea, i.e. “actualization” of encyclopedic virtualities. In the last section of the paper, we formulate some questions that remain open in the context of this investigation.

On some conceptualizations of Europe in press discourse: an approach from access semantics
2016
This paper is concerned with the semantic potential of the lexical item . Its aim is to analyze and classify different conceptualizations of the lexical item as manifested in a corpus of headlines retrieved from the . Specifically, the study is based on 217 headlines derived from a corpus of approximately one million words of news items retrieved from the from May 2004 through December 2009. The analysis is grounded in the LCCM Theory, a theory of lexical representation and semantic composition developed by Evans (for example, Evans 2006, 2009).
Polysemy in Controlled Natural Language Texts
2015
Computational semantics and logic-based controlled natural languages (CNL) do not address systematically the word sense disambiguation problem of content words, i.e., they tend to interpret only some functional words that are crucial for construction of discourse representation structures. We show that micro-ontologies and multi-word units allow integration of the rich and polysemous multi-domain background knowledge into CNL thus providing interpretation for the content words. The proposed approach is demonstrated by extending the Attempto Controlled English (ACE) with polysemous and procedural constructs resulting in a more natural CNL named PAO covering narrative multi-domain texts.
Semantic Computing of Moods Based on Tags in Social Media of Music
2014
Social tags inherent in online music services such as Last.fm provide a rich source of information on musical moods. The abundance of social tags makes this data highly beneficial for developing techniques to manage and retrieve mood information, and enables study of the relationships between music content and mood representations with data substantially larger than that available for conventional emotion research. However, no systematic assessment has been done on the accuracy of social tags and derived semantic models at capturing mood information in music. We propose a novel technique called Affective Circumplex Transformation (ACT) for representing the moods of music tracks in an interp…
SAGGIO INTRODUTTIVO. FLESSIBILITA' E PRECARIETA' COME POSSIBILITA'
2007

MLOG: a strongly typed confluent functional language with logical variables
1994
Poirriez, V., MLOG: a strongly typed confluent functional language with logical variables, Theoretical Computer Science 122 (1994) 201-223. A new programming language called MLOG is introduced. MLOG is a conservative extension of ML with logical variables. To validate our concepts, a compiler named CAML Light FLU0 was implemented. Numerous examples are presented to illustrate the possibilities of MLOG. The pattern matching of ML is kept for X-calculus bindings and an unification primitive is introduced for the logical variables bindings. A suspension mechanism allows cohabitation of pattern-matching and logical variables, Although the evaluation strategy for the application is fixed, the or…
