3D digital tools for the archaeological massive artifacts documentation
2022
This study focuses on 3D acquisition and documentation procedures, innovating and implementing traditional survey methods to promote and increase the efficacy of the historical and archaeological heritage fruition. Especially within museum itineraries, modern digital technologies, if consistently applied, can promote a better interpretative reading, implementing the knowledge of scholars. Moreover, in coherence with the Horizon Europe “Cultural Heritage” area of intervention, for a new future inextricably linked to the history of Cultural Heritage, it is essential to experiment approaches that favor innovative mechanisms of fruition and promotion of works of art, based on the idea that the …
Temporal Logic To Query Semantic Graphs Using The Model Checking Method
2012
International audience; Semantic interoperability problems have found their solutions due to the use of languages and techniques from the Semantic Web. The proliferations of ontologies and meta-information have improved the understanding of information and the relevance of search engine responses. However, the construction of semantic graphs is a source of numerous errors of interpretation or modeling, and scalability remains a major problem. The processing of large semantic graphs is a limit to the use of semantics in current information systems. The work presented in this paper is part of a new research at the border of two areas: the semantic web and the model checking. This line of rese…
Lexico-semantic change: salpuscar ‘to splash’ and variants, a small enigma
2018
This article shows what must have been the origin of the Catalan verb salpuscar and its variant salbuscar, synonym of the current verb esquitar o esquitxar (‘to splash’). It highlights the possibilities of…
Evolution-Oriented User-Centric Data Warehouse
2011
Data warehouses tend to evolve, because of changes in data sources and business requirements of users. All these kinds of changes must be properly handled, therefore, data warehouse development is never-ending process. In this paper we propose the evolution-oriented user-centric data warehouse design, which on the one hand allows to manage data warehouse evolution automatically or semi-automatically, and on the other hand it provides users with the understandable, easy and transparent data analysis possibilities. The proposed approach supports versions of data warehouse schemata and data semantics.
A Geometric Algebra Based Distributional Model to Encode Sentences Semantics
2013
Word space models are used to encode the semantics of natural language elements by means of high dimensional vectors [23]. Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) methodology [15] is well known and widely used for its generalization properties. Despite of its good performance in several applications, the model induced by LSA ignores dynamic changes in sentences meaning that depend on the order of the words, because it is based on a bag of words analysis. In this chapter we present a technique that exploits LSA-based semantic spaces and geometric algebra in order to obtain a sub-symbolic encoding of sentences taking into account the words sequence in the sentence. © 2014 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidel…
Embedded word priming elicits enhanced fMRI responses in the visual word form area.
2018
Lexical embedding is common in all languages and elicits mutual orthographic interference between an embedded word and its carrier. The neural basis of such interference remains unknown. We employed a novel fMRI prime-target embedded word paradigm to test for involvement of a visual word form area (VWFA) in left ventral occipitotemporal cortex in co-activation of embedded words and their carriers. Based on the results of related fMRI studies we predicted either enhancement or suppression of fMRI responses to embedded words initially viewed as primes, and repeated in the context of target carrier words. Our results clearly showed enhancement of fMRI responses in the VWFA to embedded-carrier …
Extending the semiotics of embodied interaction to blended spaces.
2015
In this paper, we develop a new way of understanding interactions in blended spaces. We do this by developing ideas about embodied semiotics and then apply these ideas to the analysis of interaction in mixed-reality blended spaces (where the physical world and digital world are blended deliberately to provide new forms of interaction). We discuss how blended spaces provide a new medium within which people have experiences. The semiotic analysis reveals how blended spaces are constructed across the physical and the digital, highlighting the ontology, topology, volatility, and agency present within them. It shows how people move between the physical and digital spaces through the objects and …
SAGGIO INTRODUTTIVO. FLESSIBILITA' E PRECARIETA' COME POSSIBILITA'
2007

Reasoning with Multilevel Contexts in Semantic Metanetworks
2000
It is generally accepted that knowledge has a contextual component. Acquisition, representation, and exploitation of knowledge in context would have a major contribution in knowledge representation, knowledge acquisition, and explanation, as Brezillon and Abu-Hakima supposed in [Brezillon and Abu-Hakima, 1995]. Among the advantages of the use of contexts in knowledge representation and reasoning Akman and Surav [Akman and Surav, 1996] mentioned the following: economy of representation, more competent reasoning, allowance for inconsistent knowledge bases, resolving of lexical ambiguity and flexible entailment. Brezillon and Cases noticed however in [Brezillon and Cases, 1995] that knowledge-…
