Quasi‐digital front‐ends for current measurement in integrated circuits with giant magnetoresistance technology
2014
In this study, the authors report on two different electronic interfaces for low-power integrated circuits electric current monitoring through current-to-frequency (I-f) conversion schemes. This proposal displays the intrinsic advantages of the quasi-digital systems regarding direct interfacing and self-calibrating capabilities. In addition, as current-sensing devices, they have made use of the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) technology because of its high sensitivity and compatibility with standard complementary metal oxide semiconductor processes. Single elements and Wheatstone bridges based on spin-valves and magnetic tunnel junctions have been considered. In this sense, schematic-level si…
Analysis and modeling of Temporal Dominance of Sensations with stochastic processes
2019
Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) is a technique to measure temporal perception of food product during tasting. For a panelist, it consists in choosing in a list of attributes which one is dominant at any time. This work aims to model TDS data with a stochastic process and proposes to use semi-Markov processes (SMP), a generalization of Markov chains which allows dominance durations to be modeled by any type of distribution. The model can then be used to compare TDS samples based on likelihood ratio. Because probabilities of transition from one attribute to another one can also depend on time, we propose to model TDS by period and we propose a method to select optimally the number of p…

Molecular Sensors for Moisture Detection by Mössbauer Spectroscopy
2002
A parameter of importance in various industrial and commercial applications is sensitivity to moisture. A new class of molecular sensors which enable the qualitative and quantitative determination of air moisture (high selectivity and sensitivity) by application of Mossbauer spectroscopy as the probe technique has been investigated. The electronic properties of the iron-containing sensor depend upon the presence of moisture which is taken up by it and this process is accompanied by a change in electronic spin ground state which can be detected by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The sensor is suitable for in-field and industrial application using the recently developed Mossbauer spectrometer MIMOS I…
Molecular dynamics in ferroelectric liquid crystals: From low molar to polymeric and elastomeric systems

Synthesis of Tetrasubstituted 4,4'-Biimidazoles
2012
Highly substituted 4,4'-biimidazoles were synthesized, in good to excellent yields, through a multicomponent imidazole ring synthesis by using imidazol-4-yl-ethane-1,2-diones as starting materials. The obtained compounds were preliminarily tested as chromogenic and fluorescent sensors for heavy metals.
Elastic properties of CsCN
1983
The temperature dependence of the elastic constants of CsCN exhibiting the CsCl structure was measured with ultrasonic and neutron techniques. The room temperature values were found to bec11=18.8,c12=10.7 andc44=2.95 1010 dyn/cm2. The sound waves inT2g andEg symmetries exhibit anomalous temperature effects which are similar but definitively weaker than those in the NaCl type cyanides. In addition we measured the acoustic phonon dispersion along [100] and [110]. These results are compared with recent molecular dynamics calculations.
Selective Change Driven Imaging: A Biomimetic Visual Sensing Strategy
2011
Selective Change Driven (SCD) Vision is a biologically inspired strategy for acquiring, transmitting and processing images that significantly speeds up image sensing. SCD vision is based on a new CMOS image sensor which delivers, ordered by the absolute magnitude of its change, the pixels that have changed after the last time they were read out. Moreover, the traditional full frame processing hardware and programming methodology has to be changed, as a part of this biomimetic approach, to a new processing paradigm based on pixel processing in a data flow manner, instead of full frame image processing.

Enabling Retransmissions for Achieving Reliable Multicast Communications in WSNs
2016
To ensure end-to-end reliable multicast or broadcast transmissions in IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor networks WSNs) is a challenging task since no retransmission and acknowledgment mechanisms are defined in such WSNs. In this paper, we propose three retransmission enabled multicast transmission schemes in order to achieve reliable packet transmissions in such networks. Different from the legacy CSMA/CA principle, these schemes allow a sending or forwarding node to retransmit a packet if necessary and enable implicit or/and explicit acknowledgment for multicast services. Simulations are performed in order to assess the performance of these schemes in terms of number of retransmissions, …
