The identification of signatures of selection in indigenous livestock genome is able to elucidate the adaptive mechanisms allowing them to cope with environmental pressures. In the present study, we used genotyping data from 106 Brune de l’Atlas cattle individuals and tests based on the extent of haplotype homozygosity (EHH) to look for footprints of natural selection. We identified 17 genomic regions displaying strong signal of selection (p-value <10-6) overlapping with previously described QTL regions affecting many traits such as meat and milk composition, tuberculosis susceptibility, tick and mastitis resistance. Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios (13C/12C and 15N/14N) of primary producers and consumers were investigated seasonally throughout 1999, in order to describe the food web in a western Mediterranean coastal lagoon (Lake of Sabaudia, central Italy). Security systems, criminology, physical access control and man-machine interactions are examples of applications where recognition of human faces may be crucial. In the present paper a new signature, based on a measure of axial symmetry called DST, is proposed as a significant feature to analyze facial expressions. The measure of symmetry is an elaborate difference between the internal and external symmetry kernels of an object. This study aims at developing an operational approach-namely, directional spectral mixture analysis (DISMA)-for retrieving vegetation parameters like fractional vegetation cover (FVC) and leaf area index (LAI) from multispectral and multiangular data. Accurate and automatic detection of clouds in satellite scenes is a key issue for a wide range of remote sensing applications. With no accurate cloud masking, undetected clouds are one of the most significant source of error in both sea and land cover biophysical parameter retrieval. Sensors with spectral channels beyond 1 um have demonstrated good capabilities to perform cloud masking.
