Spatial Cognition 2020/1: Book of abstracts : August 2-4, 2021, University of Latvia
2021
Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external re…

Developing emergent literacy in infant schools: a laboratory experience for the construction of the written language
2017
Research, including the educational neuroscience, has highlighted the close relationship between emerging literacy and subsequent learning of reading and writing. Early verification of symbolic and linguistic skills is essential to support the development, and recovery strategies are to be prepared in case of early signs of difficulty. In some infant schools in the Palermo area we carried out a laboratory of the last 45 hours, according to a specific methodological setting, with a dual aim: a) developing the emerging areas of literacy in preschool, b) providing teachers with an objective approach to detect in children reading and writing readiness. The study investigated phonological, lexic…

Masteroppgave i spesialsykepleie – Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: Experiences from practice in surgical units led us to question what makes teamwork effective and elegant, and also reflect upon the causes of situations where the teamwork is less than optimal and team members become frustrated. Purpose and research question: We based our research design on some of the relational factors defined in Reeves et al. (2010) conceptual framework for interprofessional teamwork. This was done to explore how surgical nurses experience these factors in relation to cooperation in surgical teams. We chose the following research question: How do surgical nurses experience the relational factors of…
Teaching Early Mathematical Skills to 3- to 7-Year-Old Children — Differences Related to Mathematical Skill Category, Children’s Age Group and Teache…
2022
Abstract This study explored teaching early mathematical skills to 3- to 7-year-old children in early childhood education and care (ECEC) and pre-primary education. Teachers in ECEC (N = 206) answered a web survey. The first aim was to determine whether teaching frequency or pedagogical awareness of teaching early mathematical skills varied according to the category of skills (numerical skills, spatial thinking skills and mathematical thinking and reasoning skills) and whether children’s age group moderated these differences. The second aim was to explore to what extent teacher-related characteristics and children’s age group explained variations in teaching frequency concerning early mathe…
Fundamental movement skill proficiency and body composition measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in eight-year-old children
2014
Objective: The main aim was to examine the association between fundamental movement skills (FMS) and objectively measured body composition using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Methods: Study of 304 eight-year-old children in Finland. FMS were assessed with the Test of Gross Motor Development, 2nd ed. (TGMD-2). Total body fat percentage (BF%), abdominal region fat percentage (AF%), and fat-free mass (FFM) were assessed by DXA. Waist circumference, height and weight were measured and International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) cut-off values for BMI were used for the definition of healthy weight and overweight/obesity. Results: Better FMS proficiency (object-control, locomotor, total FMS…
