CASP8 SNP D302H (rs1045485) is associated with worse survival in MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma patients
2014
Background Neuroblastoma is a pediatric cancer that exhibits a wide clinical spectrum ranging from spontaneous regression in low-risk patients to fatal disease in high-risk patients. The identification of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may help explain the heterogeneity of neuroblastoma and assist in identifying patients at higher risk for poor survival. SNPs in the TP53 pathway are of special importance, as several studies have reported associations between TP53 pathway SNPs and cancer. Of note, less than 2% of neuroblastoma tumors have a TP53 mutation at diagnosis. Patients and Methods We selected 21 of the most frequently studied SNPs in the TP53 pathway and evaluated their assoc…
Ovarian cancer susceptibility alleles and risk of ovarian cancer in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers
2012
Germline mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 are associated with increased risks of breast and ovarian cancer. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified six alleles associated with risk of ovarian cancer for women in the general population. We evaluated four of these loci as potential modifiers of ovarian cancer risk for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers. Four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs10088218 (at 8q24), rs2665390 (at 3q25), rs717852 (at 2q31), and rs9303542 (at 17q21), were genotyped in 12,599 BRCA1 and 7,132 BRCA2 carriers, including 2,678 ovarian cancer cases. Associations were evaluated within a retrospective cohort approach. All four loci were associated with ovarian …
Iberian Distribution of the Freshwater Snail Genus Bithynia Leach, 1818 (Mollusca: Truncatelloidea), Vector of Opisthorchiasis and Metorchiasis
2021
Background: Opisthorchis felineus and Metorchis bilis are trematodes that cause opisthorchiasis and metorchiasis, respectively. The freshwater snails Bithynia hispanica and B. tentaculata are the respective intermediate hosts for these parasites in the Iberian Peninsula, where both parasites are present. Methods: To study the distribution of these snail species, an exhaustive literature review and revision of museum collections was performed. Results: A total of 370 localities were compiled and mapped. B. tentaculata were found throughout the Iberian Peninsula, both in Spain and Portugal, while B. hispanica was found only in the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Conclusion: Knowing the distribu…
CLINICAL, BIOMOLECULAR AND IMMUNOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS
2014
Introduction. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a slowly progressive disorder characterized by a gradual loss of articular cartilage. The OA classification is mainly based on clinical and radiographic evaluations, using the Knee Society Score (AKSS) and the Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) scale. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in frzb, matn3,aspn, pthr2, gdf5 and dvwa genes are involved in OA susceptibility. However, very few studies in Caucasian people describe the association between KL grading scale and genetical alterations. In this study we assessed the associations between KL grade, clinical features,SNPs and inflammatory mediators in Sicilian individuals Methods. We enrolled 66 patients with …
Oxidative C-N fusion of pyridinyl-substituted porphyrins.
2018
International audience; The mild (electro) chemical oxidation of pyridin-2-ylthio-meso substituted Ni(II) porphyrins affords C-N fused cationic and dicationic pyridinium-based derivatives. These porphyrins are fully characterized and the molecular structure of one of them was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. A mechanism for the intramolecular oxidative C-N coupling is proposed based on theoretical calculations and cyclic voltammetry analyses.
